Lindor

TURBO

USA Today's Bob Nightengale reports that the Indians "intend to trade" Francisco Lindor this offseason.

Nightengale cites his source as "several rival teams." Lindor projects to command about $21 million in 2021 via salary arbitration and is currently set to become a free agent leading into 2022. Cleveland is looking to cut costs this winter -- see the Brad Hand decision -- and will want to get a sizable package of talent in return for Lindor before he moves too close to the open market. The 26-year-old shortstop is a career .285/.346/.488 hitter and has averaged 29 home runs and 21 stolen bases for every 162 games played through his first six major league seasons. He's won two Gold Gloves and been named an American League All-Star four times.

Would love to have him but not sure we have what it would take to get him.

Probably not a chance in hell he will become a Brewer.

For one year, the cost wouldn't make sense for us.

I'm sure if we really wanted, we could put a package together of their choice, but it would cripple us in the future.

Considering how much the Indians are trying to cut payroll and how much player dollar value for 2021 has spiraled, they're probably pretty much giving him away if they want to dump the whole 21M.

Unfortunately I doubt we are interested in paying him 21M either.

Yah...really horrid timing to trade someone like Lindor. I don't care the talent...asking a team to swallow $21mil next year is going to be a hefty ask. I am sure there will be many suitors, but I am not sure they will be giving up a ton of prospect capital to make it happen at the same time.

He ain't coming here though.

He’ll end up a Dodger or Yankee or some other high payroll team who can actually afford to pay him.

Have to think the Mets (with new ownership) are going to be in the think of it..

The Mets would be the most obvious team, but I'd imagine a lot of teams are still going to be interested in Lindor. I don't think things are so dire that a franchise player like him will be a salary dump.

I love the guy though. Kinda a shame Cleveland can't keep him.

According to MLB.com's Jon Morosi, the Mets, Yankees, Phillies, Blue Jays, and Cardinals are "viewed as the strongest candidates" to land Francisco Lindor from the Indians.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale heard from "several rival teams" last week that the Indians fully intend to trade Lindor this offseason, but Morosi cautions in his column Wednesday that it could take a while for the situation to play out because Cleveland may want the top free agents on the market to find new homes first. Also, the Mets have yet to hire a president of baseball operations to work under new owner Steve Cohen and team president Sandy Alderson. Lindor, a two-time Gold Glove Award winner and four-team American League All-Star, is currently scheduled to reach free agency after the conclusion of the 2021 campaign.
