Bucks 2020 offseason thread

Fire the front office. Get some people in there that actually know what the hell they are doing.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Agreed with Brew4U. This isn't a one off. That's 3 major contract blunders within the last 2 offseasons. People need to get fired over this. You have professionals within the organization who know every intricate deal of the CBA and how to maximize your payroll. Or at least, you are supposed to.

This is an embarrassment; and worse, it comes at the worst possible time. Why would Giannis want to remain part of an organization that can't even control the things within their own control when it comes to building a winner around him?

Bucks have added two players - small forward Torrey Craig, and shooting guard Bryn Forbes. Both are most likely minimum salary guys. Nothing bad, nothing that good. Forbes can shoot pretty well - but not much more from what I understand. Might fit well with our scheme and personnel. Craig is considered a plus defender, but limited scorer.

My thoughts on this offseason:

- Holiday is a huge get - and makes it all a plus.

- The Portis move is intriguing. He could really thrive in our offense.

- D.J. Augustin is a nice backup PG, but at the price, it seems steep. $7M for a year is just a bit of an overpay. $21M over three years is overkill. The guy is 33, and giving $7/year for an aging back up is risky. Especially considering our money issues. Still, he's a good player. Maybe not the shot Hill was - but a better play maker.

- Connaughton is a fine guy to have, but $16M over 3 years seems overkill. Oh well, it could be worse (but it probably could be better).

- The draft was solid. We got two guys with very a specific skill set - shooting. Nothing wrong with that for 2nd rounders.

- Forbes is a good shot, but nothing little else. Craig is a good defensive stopper, not much else from what I have read.

- The Bogdan stuff was a fiasco. It just makes the club look like amateurs. Of course, it might not have been their fault. It could have been someone with Sacramento - or even Bogdan's camp. But the optics are awful.

- The overall feel (as noted in The Athletic article) of the franchise is not great. They just look incompetent. If that perception is reached in Giannis' camp - it can cause some issues.

In the end, the Bucks did well because Jrue Holiday is in the line up over Bledsoe. Nothing wrong with Bled, it's just Holiday equals him on defense - and betters him on offense - and he should fit better in our scheme. Bledsoe's playoff performances are another issue we have gotten rid of - a big plus.

The big question now is Giannis. Does he sign or not? We shall see.

I think this is a better team than last year. If DiVincenzo can step up his game (consistency would be really nice), it will really help soothe the lose of Bogdan.

In the most literal sense, it could have been better.

I'm definitely concerned with the optics of how our organization is run lately. It's a poor, amateurish look. I remarked the other day about how the financials of the NBA are too complicated for me to ever understand.

While that remains true, I didn't assume they were too complicated for our own professionals to understand.

I would like to think if someone paid me I could figure it out. How hard can it be?

The Bucks signed Forbes - age 27, averaging 11+ pts/game the last two years. Shooting 40% 3ptrs. Seems like a pretty good signing.

Torrey Craig seems helpful as a defensive replacement for Wes. Not bad FA signings.

I don't see much for a backup C however. Portis?

Portis and Giannis. Their best lineup last year came with Giannis playing Center. It'll require him to play more than 30 minutes a game, but that shouldn't be too difficult.

The 3rd year on Augustin's deal isn't guaranteed.

[sarcasm]I’m socked that the 30-year old son of a Manhattan socialite doesn’t know how to run an NBA team.[/sarcasm]

He doesn't really even have to. He just needs to have the right people in place to do it for him and it doesn't really look like he does.

Well at least the Bucks are not as bad as the Hornets are at free agency and manipulating the cap. With the release of Batum the Hornets are basically paying Hayward more than what he was making with the Celtics at least cap wise he is. The Pacers were rumored to have had a contract of 4-years $100m for Hayward which would have been an overpay for them the Knicks were also interested but at a much lower per year figure and only at a 1-year deal.

I am not sure what the Hornets were thinking in signing Hayward for the contract that they did they were basically bidding against the Pacers and overbid. The Celtics were not interested in bringing Hayward back at all and were not going to match any contract so they were not a factor either. It is just extremely confusing on why the Hornets did what they did. As good as Jordan was as a player he is an absolute joke when it comes to the front office which is weird as Jordan is extremely smart, I guess he has the genius complex where he over thinks every thing and misses the smallest and biggest details of what he is trying to do.

Good article in the Ringer bout the Bucks off-season, sorry I don't have the link.

Here’s the link:

Milwaukee’s Makeover Is Complete. Now Comes the $230 Million Question.

The first plan didn’t go so well, but the Bucks still managed to overhaul their roster. Are the changes enough to get Giannis Antetokounmpo to commit to a supermax extension?

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Sure, the center isn't what it used to be. B-Lopez is pretty unique in that he can play anywhere out to the 3pt line on offense, yet protect the rim on defense. Having a rim-protector is pretty important for our defense - someone not Giannis - in case Brook is injured. I'd rather not have Giannis playing center and banging against 250-300lb guys (on some teams at least).

So Bam Adebayo is signing a big extension with Miami. This would take up a big chunk of their cap room. Bam's agent is also Giannis' agent. Giannis is probably re-signing with Bucks.

He gets more money signing with Milwaukee doesn’t he? I’m sure he will sign to get the max deal, just a matter of if he then demands a trade or not. My guess is he’s leaving in the near future if not this year. Milwaukee improved the roster, but I don’t think enough to even win the East let alone a title.

I don't think NOT signing the super-max was ever an option. Just too much money left on the table. He gets the best of both worlds, give it a couple more years with the Bucks and if he is unhappy you ask (demand) to be traded. Or, wait until contract is done, he'll still be young enough. I think the delay is all about forcing the Bucks to make moves and spend money on the roster, and I have no problem with that.
