This thread is for tracking Minor League options through the 2021 season. Free agents will be removed once they have been officially released.

thanks for doing this. technically, lorenzo cain is currently on the restricted list, and is not on the 40-man roster.

Technically, most of this thread isn't true yet. We've got plenty of time to add Cain back to the restricted list if he doesn't play next year.

FWIW, they are now all on the 40-man.

Omar Narvaez, Luke Maile, and Orlando Arcia all have over 4 years of service time heading into the 2021 season.

 

Once they reach 172 days on their 5th year of service time, they can no longer be optioned without their consent. All 3 have options remaining so this case is relevant for all of them.

 

Details:

 

Maile: 4 years, 99 days (needs 73 more days, 6/12/21 assuming he is on the roster from the start of the season)

Narvaez: 4 years, 89 days (needs 83 more days, 6/22/21 assuming he is on the roster from the start of the season)

Arcia: 4 years, 47 days (needs 125 more days, 8/3/21 assuming he is on the roster from the start of the season)

Options and IL have been set for the beginning of the season. All optioned players will burn an option if they stay down through April 20th.

There are a bunch of people set to burn options today, but they haven't spent 20 days optioned until midnight tonight (or, really, after the game starts tonight).

 

I'll either update the thread tonight or tomorrow, but if someone gets recalled today, then I don't believe they've burned an option yet.

Green burned his 1st option in 2019, but he was outrighted after the season and elected free agency, and has only signed minor league deals since, so he still has 2 Minor League options intact if the Brewers were to add him to the 40-man.

Omar Narvaez has reached 5 years of service time, and would need to approve any option to the minors (not expecting this to be much of an issue).

The "-" syntax here means that he burned the option this year and will have 0 remaining next year, but you can continue to exercise the option all year even after it's burned.
