ESPN's Jeff Passan reports that Devin Williams will miss the Wild Card Series due to an arm issue.

Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel adds that it's a sore right shoulder. This is a massive blow for the Brewers as they prepare to face the Dodgers, as Williams delivered a dominant 0.33 ERA and 53/9 K/BB ratio over 27 innings during the 2020 regular season. The 26-year-old may have the best changeup in MLB.

Anyone else concerned he's not gonna last? Following Pitching Ninja on Twitter they say Williams spin rate on his change up is way higher than anyone else's in the MLB...that has to be hard on the arm/shoulder especially since his is almost like a Screwball.

Really hope he's all healed up we need him it was so fun watching him pitch last year.

Yes a little. The good news is he has an upper 90's fastball and is still cheap.

Given his combination of past injury history, throwing really really hard & the torque required for his change up, Devin might be a slightly higher injury risk, but I wouldn't say he is significantly higher than any other pitcher.

There's just so much that's impossible to know. A lot of people thought Chris Sale would never last & eventually he didn't, but before that he threw the 6th most innings & put up the 3rd highest WAR in all of MLB over seven seasons from 2012-18.

With how volatile relievers are my median expectation for Williams six remaining years of team control would be four seasons around 60-70 IP with like a 140 ERA+, one year thats kinda fair to middling & one year that's lost to injury/underperformance.
