2020-09-30 (NL Wild Card Series): Brewers (Suter) at Dodgers (Buehler) [Brewers lose, 4-2 -- Suter’s early struggles prove too much for offense to overcome; Yardley and Topa combine on solid effort out of bullpen]

Suter is already one of those staple Brewers players over the last few seasons. He has a chance here to really put himself in a place historically with fans if he can find a way to knock of the Dodgers.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Suter has only faced the Dodgers once in his career (2018 Miller Park). He got mauled pretty bad partially in thanks to his defense, but his line was 6 runs/2 ER/3 Innings.

That may be in part because he was likely pitching with a torn UCL. That was his last outing before undergoing Tommy John surgery.

A few notes on Walker Buehler:

The most innings he went in a game this year was 6.0 IP, and he only did that once. As mentioned elsewhere he hasn't thrown more than 71 pitches in a game since August 21st.

His four-seam fastball (throws it 54% of time) has been nearly unhittable this year. Hitters have a .102 BA on it, just a .119 SLG against it, and a .165 wOBA. That's pretty bonkers for a starter.

Buehler's most hittable pitch has been his curveball (throws it 16% of time), which has actually been hit very hard this year. That includes a .750 SLG and hitters have hit his curveball with an average exit velocity of 94.2-mph.

The Brewers as a team saw a ton of curves from RHP this year (top 5 most in baseball which was partially because they weren't great against them). I would love to see Hiura get into a Buehler curveball tonight (although he'll probably see nearly exclusively high four-seamers).

Buehler does throw the pitch that was sort of the Brewers' kryptonite this year, a sinker (Brewers SLG % against RH sinkers was worst in the league by .116 points below the next worst team), but it's among his least used pitches (9%).

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Devin Williams has been left off the Wild Card roster due to an arm issue according to Jeff Passan.

Per Passan: Huge blow for the Milwaukee Brewers: Rookie right-hander Devin Williams, the best reliever in baseball this year, has been left off the roster for their wild card series against the top-seeded Los Angeles Dodgers, sources tell ESPN. He's dealing with an arm issue, sources said.

Per Haudricourt: Brewers put out playoff roster without Devin Williams. He has right shoulder soreness. Hearing it's not really bad but enough to keep out of best-of-three.

That pretty much blows one of the only things going for them in this entire series. The combo of Hader/Williams for a good 3-5 innings to help win two games was one of the only glimmers of hope. About the only way they were going to manage a hard fought series win...now we basically hope the Dodgers crap the bed.

More concerned about Williams arm for next year.

According to Haudricourt, it’s not a serious injury. But yeah, anything with the shoulder is always concerning.

I did find it a bit odd that he didn't throw his change-up hardly at all in his last outing.
