2020-09-23: Brewers (Houser) at Reds (Bauer) [Brewers lose, 6-1 -- Offense gets dominated by Bauer; Houser’s struggles against left handed hitters continues]

Eye Black
We chose to give tons of at bats to Peterson and Sogard and gave very few to Holt who is better than both.

Dumping him when they did was confusing at the time, and it continues to be. I think there must be something more to the story. I wonder if it was a case of him just never feeling comfortable here? Or something along those lines? We forget that these guys are human, and sometimes the fit just doesn't work for whatever reason. Of course, that is complete speculation.

... and there's the dominant, shut-down inning from Knebel I talked about earlier LOL. That sure would have been nice a couple innings ago :(

I think it might be time to take Knebel's training wheels off for this weekend. Five games in four days, they are going to need him in high leverage spots. We can't keep tossing Claudio and Yardley out there in those spots.

This team would be how many wins better if Cain didn't opt out?? 2-3??

If Cain stayed as close to as hot as he was at the plate to start the year, and he eliminated the need for all the pathetic Peterson at bats, I’d say that’s worth at least 3 wins.

Peterson - .346 wOBA, 115 wRC+

Yelich - .347 wOBA, 115 wRC+

Oh, I don’t argue the stats. But the contract (and the MVP pedigree) plays, so if Cain and Garcia take ABs from anybody, it’s Peterson.

A scenario that is lining up now...

The Brewers are going to be 27-28 at night’s end.

With the Cardinals currently down 6 runs lets predict they end the night at 27-26.

If the Brewers take 3 of 5 from the Cardinals they will finish 30-30.

The Cardinals would be 29-29 and likely have to play a double header against the Tigers on Monday.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

The Reds are planning to have Bauer pitch against the Twins on Sunday (3 days rest again) and he’s still in the game at 100+ pitches and counting.

Yeah, they aren't going to re-sign him. So they are going to run his arm into the ground. Might as well call that being Sabathia'd

Did we just hand Bauer the Cy Young?

He probably had four fingers on it already. Wonder if there's ever been a Cy Young winner who was entering free agency two years in a row before? Cole got a massive deal out of the Yankees, and I predict Bauer will be a Yankee as well next year. Monopoly money.

Honestly it won't happen but Bauer is the kind of free agent that should have been pinching their pennies for. Take Braun off the books and that's a start. Add him to Burnes and Woodruff then trade Hader for a haul and you should be back in business.

That would be my dream scenario this offseason. If Bauer really is willing to take a one year deal like he says, then we might have a chance although still highly unlikely.

Yep..Bauer, Braun, Puig...love em if they're yours, hate em if they're not.

Contreras and Biaz. Wainright. Also pretty much every punch and judy hitter from the Pirates who has given the Brewers fits over the years.

If the Brewers would have pulled off the rumored Manny Machado trade attempt during the midseason in 2018 I think Brewers fans would’ve loved him. Now they all despise him.

... both Machado and Schoop, But for totally different reasons.
