Packers 2020 team discussion

adambr2
I wouldn't read too much into opening drives. There's been zero preseason, zero tape on the new personnel/scheme teams have going. If they are still getting steamrolled to start games in November I would be a bit more concerned about it.

I think they ARE getting steamrolled. They Lions were just running at them at will early yesterday. I thought the Lions did us a big favor when they started to come out on 1st downs throwing the ball(up 14-10 or within a score).

We're fine when they throw the ball. Still not playing great, but we look good enough and there's obvious room for growth.

When their OL is blowing our DL off the ball...then it's obvious nothing has changed from last year. They're bad up front with Clark, they're brutal without him.

But I do think that Gute will address that. He may not do it with a guy we've all heard of(though maybe he will). But at some point...

I don't know if anyone has listened to Pat McAfee's show but Aaron Rodgers is on there every Tuesday and it's pretty fricken hilarious. If you find their show on Twitter they tweet out all the good stuff. Great segment about the band Creed today.

I caught a clip of Rodgers on Pat McAffee’s show after Rob Demovsky tweeted about it. The bit about uniform numbers was amusing - they had a laugh about uncommon uniform numbers that are put into circulation for training camp due to the glut of extra bodies.

That got me thinking - what ‘long shot’ Packers have been assigned a different uniform number in the offseason or preseason only to ‘upgrade’ later?

Desmond Howard immediately comes to mind. He wore 22 in the preseason and then switched to 81 before Week 1.

An astute Twitter user pointed out that Donald Driver wore 13 in his first preseason before switching to 80. This was before it was common to see WR numbers in the teens.

Don Majkowski wore #5 his rookie year before switching to #7 in year two. Perhaps there might have been some outcry due to a low-round rookie wearing Hornung's # too.

I caught that. Rodgers made some comments that I'm sure people will dig through, but the one I found...interesting or positive was when he was asked if he has a different attitude this year(something to that affect) and he said he had. That in the past few months, he'd made some changes...that he was happy, how important it was for him to be around people he loved and good friends, and that he was having more fun playing Football.

I thought all along we'd struggle on offense last year and then be better this year. I did NOT see Aaron Rodgers resurgence. I was happy with him being a top ~5 QB that didn't have a ton of weapons on offense.

It's been a lot of fun to see Rodgers so accurate, to see these guys getting separation. MVS in particular, and to see this OL dominate the LOS.

I think the only reason people are so vocal about the DL and the urgency to address their depth along the DL is directly due to how talented this offense looks and how special they COULD be.

We got on the list in '92 and got our tickets when they expanded the south end zone in 2013. We wanted the Green package but when the chance came to get the Gold we took it. I think we were like 20K when we signed up. Good timing as that was right before Holmgren's first year.

They seem way more legit this year than last. I was still a bit skeptical going into last night. But Rodgers looks as sharp/accurate as ever and the offense overall, scheme etc, looks totally different in a good way than last year. They should have a shot as long as he doesn't get hurt, but of course the NFC is not going to be easy to win with Sea, SF and some others.

Agree, Rodgers looks like old, good Rodgers. Before the year I said I thought he'd still have a late career resurgence, but I didn't think they had the weapons on offense to do it this year.

They're stretching the field though, finally. And there's a nice balance of quick release and stuff over the top. The offense looks extremely good.

I agree with this too. Last year they were a paper tiger that I thought would carry over to this year, although I still thought they could get double digit wins because of the weak division we are in, and I am pleasantly surprised. Rodgers looked like his best days were behind him and he's now playing as well as he's ever had. If we can somehow shore up the run defense by trade or free agent signing, this team can go a long way.

On another note, isn't it nice that after three weeks we have a three game lead and a victory over the Vikings? They're already dead in the water as far as division title contenders. Unfortunately they've also played themselves into the Trevor Lawrence sweepstakes, and the thought of Lawrence in purple frightens me to no end.

I don't think they could be as crappy as the Jets if they tried. Plus, many Viking fans told me Cousins was the answer, so that must mean they would teade the pick anyhow. :laughing

You would assume the Jets would take Lawrence even though they have Darnold but then again it's the Jets.

You're probably right but last year they started out as the worst team in football but won six of their last eight so you never know. The Giants are pretty bad too.

A team in need of a quarterback looking to trade up into the #1 spot would talk them into the trade, citing Darnold. Unfortunately for the Jets, Darnold is no Lawrence.

I think assuming the Jets trade down is assuming a lot. God it must suck to be a football fan in New York.
