Badger Football 2020 (Latest- Headed to the Duke’s Mayo Bowl (seriously)

I'd be willing to be the TV revenue is way more important than the gameday revenue.

How much TV revenue money do FCS schools get each year again? If they don't go take their annual drubbing by a power conference opponent who pays them a couple million bucks to be sacrificial lambs once a year, many FCS programs are barely financially stable as they are put together even before COVID. By the machine, I meant college athletics as a whole - take away gameday football revenue for ~90% of athletic programs that have college football for any length of time, and those athletic programs suffer immensely, if not fold up shop altogether.

The top 1-2 dozen college football powers will survive just fine with no butts in the stands off TV revenue for awhile - but major athletic programs will fold across power conferences with no gameday revenue. The other thing to note is despite nothing better during a pandemic theoretically forcing more people to watch sports on TV - TV ratings are down across the board for sports broadcasts - TV revenue may seem like an endless stream of cash, but that isn't guaranteed to always be increasing either in the current economic climate.

Yeah this isn't the NFL. A backup QB doesn't mean it's some scrub, it's next year's starter. How many more yards in that game would Lawrence have even thrown for? How many snaps in the second game did Lawrence play on defense?

I realize it's not the NFL...and that their QB does not in fact play defense. Thank you for your insight there...

I think the fact that it was a 34-3 game before ND scored a Garbage time TD just last week and in their win, the best player in CFB and arguably the best QB prospect since Manning didn't play in the other game...would lead most people to believe there was a substantial talent gap there.

Seems pretty obvious they beat ND both times if Lawrence plays both games. That the true Freshmen that started is the likely starter next year...I fail to see how that's relevant?

So basically you're argument is that Lawrence plays defense?

Markese Stepp reported to be transferring from USC to WI. Now only if they could find some WR.

Stepp was a pretty significant recruit in ‘18... if I’m reading it correctly, he’d have 3 years of eligibility left?

Yea, he’s listed as a sophomore this year, so guessing he’s still a sophomore next season if this year doesn’t count for anyone.

Nakia Watson has entered the transfer portal

Not that Wisconsin shouldnt reach out to Mookie Cooper, but if Rudolph was correct that Davis and Pryor end up coming back, assuming reasonable progression from Dike and Chandler, the WR room should be fine next year. The coaches trusted Bracey and Abbott enough to put them on the field. Predicting which true freshmen see the field is difficult, but Allen has a good size and has been productive in a high level of high school football. I guess Whitted used the transfer market at CSU so I guess they could go there.

As far as Stepp/Watson goes, Im skeptical of Stepp's USC stats but Trojan fans seem to believe he will be productive here. I was hoping a Ball like switch for Watson but it didnt happen. I guess there is a reason we were his only major offer. Still disappointed he didnt stick it out as he could help with depth even if he isnt a all conference back.

Clearly, that's not my argument. I think I made my point and I think the results from every game ND has played under the current system back them up.

Taking one regular season upset in which the other team doesn't have their best player(to say nothing of several other starters) doesn't change that.

It should be a solid group...for Wisconsin. But if they can add a big-time talent and a guy who is a redshirt Freshmen and a 4-star recruit(#78) that could be huge for the program.

You look at the biggest differences between OSU and Wisconsin and the talent on the perimeter is enormous. The NFL is full of OSU DB's and WR's. We don't need to match them, but if we could steal a guy they want to keep there, that's always nice.

As for true freshmen who could have an impact, I think Woehler has a chance if he can add a little bit of weight. Allen certainly does...but likely as more of an inbox Safety and if he becomes a LB'er, then he has a very deep depth chart to overcome. But Woehler's speed and physicality...I think that could come in handy right out of the gate.

He is big (6'0"/236lbs) Any word on the guy's speed or will be another Watson?

Just looked at some highlights. He looks WAY more patient than Watson.

Patience is the most underrated skill a RB can has. Taylor was the most patient back I've seen in College. AT least at UW. Generally young guys are not very patient.

Hopefully, he steps in and takes the reigns a gives the younger guys some room to grow.

I had a hunch there was a reason why they signed three RBs in their recruiting class, but had thought it would be Julius Davis transferring as there were rumors that he was in the doghouse and had only one carry all year. I know Davis was injured all of last year and had also heard that he had re-aggravated it, so maybe that's just a rumor.

Sanborn and Ferguson returning for their senior years.

Good news on the returnees, meh news on Watkins. Obviously, he's buried a bit if Stepp is headed here as expected. You never feel good about a transfer, but he really was given the opportunity to be 'the guy' this year, and didn't perform well at all. Best of luck to him at Bowling Green or whichever school like that he ends up, as he'll do well there.

Another Hornibrook situation here I'm sure.

Except Coan is good
