With so little HS football last year, I wonder how widely varying the ratings will be. There is always four and five star recruits that disappoint and no-names that surprise, but I've got to imagine evaluating talent was really hard this year.

Wisconsin quietly signed their best recruiting class ever on Wednesday, ranked 16th in the country.

Looks like it's going to be a fun class. Got to see some of them play the last two year. I think that Woehler kid is going to be an absolute monster. I know a few guys on that staff as Muskego including the HC...that kid hits as hard as anyone I've watched at the HS level. To be fair, I didn't see Allen play much.

Interesting that them adding ANOTHER OLB pushed them past A&M. That's a pretty big deal the way Jimbo's got that program going down there(and the state from which they get to recruit).

Hopefully, their performance increases in the same increments that their recruiting classes have. They'll be playing for Natty's. Just gotta dive into that transfer portal this year and look for some impact talent at WR'er.

If ever there was a year to really pick up a couple of transfers to get you over the top, it'd be with the young talent we've got on the way and players free to play right away.

Edit-They're now ranked 15th on ESPN and Texas is ranked 16th with A&M at 12...but they definitely had the Aggies ranked below us just yesterday when I read this comment and checked to see who we'd have added that moved us up a spot.

I would guess that it would have more of an impact on those lower-rated recruits who may not have gotten a chance to perform this year.

The ESPN 300 guys are noticed early on as most of them are going to camps where they first stand out and then by the time they're Seniors they've got a couple of years of film.

Wouldn't surprise me though to hear more of these, "and Purdue was the only school to offer him a Division one Scholarship" type stories.

Sounds like Pryor and Davis will be out again this weekend. Also sounds like they could both return next year which would be a big boost.

Given that (by using Rival's rankings) the incoming class of 2019, 2020, and 2021 are the best three incoming classes in the last 20-some years (whenever Rival did the rankings), the next few years could be VERY interesting for WI football.

I was also surprised to see on 5 star and two 4 star OTs all signing together. That will be some strong competition.

Edit- Looks like Benzschawel will move inside to guard with Rucci and Mahlman staying at T.

The 2022 recruiting class for offensive linemen might be even better than the last few if all they do is get the in-state guys.

Saw Collin Wilder stated that he was for sure coming back next year. It will be interesting to see the full list of those that stay. Wisconsin football and basketball could drastically benefit from a couple seniors sticking around.

Davis and Pryor are two guys that the eligibility rule is practically designed to help. Lost seasons, basically, due to COVID and injuries, and not good enough as of now to hit the draft in a realistic way. Come back, gain back lost ground and establish yourself as a legit draft prospect and hope for the best. Makes too much sense, IMO.

And that's a real shame, because while Mertz is clearly the more talented player, it's equally as clear that Coan is the better football player.

If Mertz was going to be a great player, it didn't take long for Madison to turn him into yet another totally mediocre quarterback. The only thing that made Mertz better than Hornibrook in yesterday's game was that he didn't throw three passes directly at opposing players. The guy looked like he had zero confidence and, the worse thing of all, it didn't look like his teammates had any confidence in him either. And that's rare for the Badgers, as they have a pretty long history of the players really rallying around shaky quarterbacks like Joel Stave.

What really bothers me about Coan is that he was cleared to play in early December and the coaches still wouldn't put him in the game after the golden boy recruit got KO'ed. Can't blame the guy for transferring.

Despite all the train-wrecks that happened during the year, the 3-3 record still put them in third place in the division, only behind Northwestern and Iowa. Overall decent enough results but it sure would have been nice to have had a closer score against Iowa.

Special shout-out to Jon Dietzen who came back, had a good year and was a real savior in yesterday's game.

All reports that I've seen say that he hasn't been cleared. Do you have something that says otherwise?

He has been practicing with the team, has been in uniform and has gone through pre-game warmups the last couple of weeks.

Coan is transferring

I hope he finds a good team to transfer to. I still think he has the possibility to be a backup or 3rd string QB in the NFL.

The link doesn't work anymore, saying it has been moved or deleted. Is there any other source confirming this because I haven't found one.

Just type "Jack Coan transfer portal" into any internet search engine and the result will be a whole bunch of articles that will confirm this.
