2020-09-14, Game 2: Cardinals (Ponce de Leon) at Brewers (Burnes) [Brewers lose, 3-2 in 9 innings]

Eye Black

Didn't Sogard hit 16 HRs last season. I hope you are right about Urias but I just don't see many extra base hits in that bat. If he hits 10-15 HRs with a bunch of doubles that would be great but it would be surprising.

No, he hit 13. Sogard’s average exit velocity this year is 84.6 mph which is in the bottom 4% of baseball. Urias’ average exit velocity is 88.7 mph which is the 50th percentile across baseball. That is also something he’ll likely continue to improve upon as he gets older and is further removed from the hamate bone injury.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Baseball hitters are one trick ponies. They put zero pressure on a defense or a pitcher. You know what you are going to get every time.

Of course they have the talent to run into and hit it out the park. But you don’t really need to worry about any strategy. Even with runners on base. You can basically put all fielders on one side of the field and not worry about anything

Pitchers don’t really need to worry about base runners that much knowing it is relativeLay easy to strike out 1 or 2 batters in a row

I wonder if a franchise will try to be different and go more contact based just to try to be different. Especially when that can’t afford the major sluggers in this era

Sogard hitting 13 HRs just shows you how juiced the ball was. I really hope you are right about Urias.

I've never really seen a Brewers team struggle so much to hit pitches out over the plate. Not even good pitches, we consistently see swings and misses on center cut fastballs and hanging breaking balls, what used to be called mistake pitches. It doesn't seem to be as much of a chasing problem as most are drawing walks, they just can't hit.

It’s hard to hit when your bat isn’t in the hitting zone for very long because you are taking huge uppercuts

September of 2014 was similar....

I know the lack of scoring was very similar but could they really have been striking out at this high of a rate? I mean when I look at this lineup I think really only a couple players should currently be in the big leagues.

Narvaez has one of the worst I've ever seen. It amazes me that he's ever even made contact.

His 2019 swings looks so much better. I just watched some highlights and he goes to left field and makes solid contact with a swing that's in the zone longer.
