Brewers claim OF Billy McKinney, activate RHP Ray Black; DFA RHP Trey Supak and INF Ronny Rodriguez

Ron Robinsons Beard
consider that had rodriguez or supak been claimed, neither would have been eligible for postseason play. seeing how many teams are still in the postseason mix, this may have factored into a team's decision to not put in a claim for either.

IMHO a pretty smooth move by Stearns.

That said, Supak is basically AAAA fodder at this point.

Brewers sent RHP Trey Supak outright to their alternate training site.

It's a bit surprising that Supak didn't get claimed off waivers by another team after Milwaukee designated him for assignment on Monday. The 24-year-old right-hander was named the Double-A Southern League's Most Outstanding Pitcher in 2019. He'll remain a member of the Brewers organization leading into 2021.

source? if he was sent to the alternate training site in grand chute, then he would be added back to the club player pool.

Seems they were designated to AAA rather than the Alternate Site. Part of the 60 man rules? Removed from the team's roster as part of the DFA, so can't be re-added to the pool? Would be weird if they kept them in the organization and had the option of putting them back into workouts but chose to kick them out of the alternate site.

Trey Supak remains in the Brewers organization, as it's announced he and Ronny Rodriguez have been outrighted to Class AAA San Antonio.

last month, jhoulys chacin was placed on outright waivers by the braves. no team claimed him, and he was outrighted to the alternate training site, per the team's transactions page. but that doesn't mean that he necessarily rejoined the club player pool. perhaps chacin is there more like coaches are to fill in as needed for intrasquad games at the alternate training site?

People aren't going to like it, but it wouldn't surprise me if the Brewers fill out the last five or so spots on their roster with former high draft picks like McKinney hoping to catch cheap lightning in a bottle. I would expect a lot of teams would try to go "cheap" this winter.

I could see Gamel and his salary gone and Mckinney and Taylor in as the backup outfielders.

I just dont see the Brewers spending millions on 4th and 5th outfielders or utility infielders.
