Woo! Congrats on the twins! We’re expecting our first (a girl) in February so I also appreciate all of the advice here.

Laura would be a nice nod to the monster storm of 2020, plus homage to your favorite BF moderator who was also born in February.

I don't think it totally clashes with your surname, either. ;)

Laura is a good name. I'm not opposed!

[sarcasm]Good job being non-commital and not get banned![/sarcasm] :laughing

Anyone find any “free” baby sites for anything? I see that Amazon gives you a free gift package for registering with them. Wasn’t sure if other places had things like this. Or if it is even worth those things.

If you register with Similac/Enfamil they will continually send you a train of significant discounts on formula. It's quite expensive so it's worth doing. Even if you guys are breastfeeding you may run into supply issues down the road like we did. I can't really think of stuff we got free. You can get a Bernie Brewer certificate at their first game though :)

Target gives a free kit when you start a baby registry and they also give a 15% discount code to buy anything that goes unbought on the registry. The free “kit” is like a $100 value. I’m sure that is inflated, but it still gives some nice freebies no doubt and coupons. All you have to do is add something to the registry and then request it at the store. They recommend calling ahead to make sure they have the supplies for it.

The key to being a good parent is just being an OK parent when you’re really tired or stressed out. Most Nature vs Nurture studies put Nature’s influence on a child’s development at about 70%, so as long as you and your partner are decent people, chances are your boys will grow up to be decent people too. My son could read by his 4th birthday, but when my wife is away on business, he and I order Dominos and watch Pawn Stars until we both fall asleep on the couch.

Congratulations and Good Luck!

My wife and I are having twins come December. It is our first two children and we are very excited. I thought we might have some posters who have been through this all before and might have some advice on good places to shop for deals, things to be aware of, etc... Much appreciated!

Congrats! My wife and I are expecting twins in February, our first as well. Really glad you started this. Did you guys find out the sexes? We wanted it to be a surprise at first but since we are having two we are wondering if there is an advantage to finding out ahead of time.

Yes, we did. They’re both boys. We wanted to just to be as prepared as we can with things. I don’t think there’s a right answer with that but it was just something that we both felt comfortable with. Congratulations to you too!

I don't know if anyone else has done prenatal genetic screening, but my wife did the testing and she came back as a carrier for a rare kidney disease so I got tested as well. Found out today that I'm not a carrier so the baby is good to go :) It's pretty cool how many things they can test for these days.

Exciting news, congrats!

I had forgotten about this thread. Unfortunately, my wife and I lost our twins at 29 weeks back in late October. It is the worst thing either of us has ever had to endure but we are getting by day by day.

I'm so, so sorry. That doesn't seem near big enough.

I'm so sorry to hear that. We had a miscarriage 2 years ago and it was incredibly difficult to get through. Since then we have been very lucky with a 2 year old and now we have a 1 month old (born on 1/1/21). Not sure your exact situation, but getting through the difficult times made us appreciate the good ones even more.
