Peterson is younger, but throughout his career has been a statistically worse player than Holt. Maybe Peterson gets hot and has an impact, but the move is likely not going to make a difference. More playing time for Urias, Sogard, Gyorko, Matthias.

the acquisition of brock holt came at the expense of losing taylor williams on outright waivers.

brock holt has never been outrighted before, and has one minor league option remaining, but has enough service time to refuse any minor league assignment.

the brewers have seven days to trade or try to outright holt to the alternate training site in grand chute, or release him.

Maybe they’ll just release him given his comments about the uncertainty of playing with a baby due. But with a $950,000 prorated salary plus $750,000 buy out on his option. If they outright him to the alternate training site, he’ll report. With the uncertainty surrounding the offseason I don’t think many players would turn down about any four weeks working out in Appleton to collect nearly a million dollars.

Totally missed Williams becoming Seattle’s closer. I’m not in any fantasy leagues this year and Seattle doesn’t get a lot of media coverage I guess.

Are the M’s trying to give away games? Taylor was absolutely brutal the last two summers, continually throwing in-game BP. Hopefully he figures it out, but he didn’t deserve a roster spot

williams was awarded a fourth option that is only valid for this year, and seattle knew that when they claimed him.

the guy is five-for-five in save opportunities, has a 1.09 whip and has held hitters to a .195 batting average. he's also struck out 13.09/9.

i think he's figured it out, and when rosters were set at 30 for the first two weeks (and possibly key players were sidelined by the covid-19 injured list), many clubs had guys who probably didn't deserve a roster spot, but circumstances allowed for it . . . and some, like williams, have gotten to absolutely shine.

May he figured it out, maybe he hasn't. He's thrown 11 innings this year. Not sure we can make too many judgements off of that.

If Holt said his mind was on his family he might just stay home and not play for the rest of the season.

So, could this have been a way for the Brewers to save a million dollars or so on a guy who wasn't performing?

Peterson seems like the kind of guy you bring up when there's not going to be a lot of playing time, who don't mind losing when you need to bring someone else up.

Corey Ray can't be impressing if they wanted another left-handed bat to replace a guy who's been in the outfield half the time and went for another journeyman rather than recall him.

Agree. I'd like to see Ray or Taylor get a chance, since they could use another OF right now.

  • 2 weeks later...

With more playing time in Washington, Brock Holt seems to have gotten it going for the Nationals.

He got 30 ABs with Milwaukee across 16 games and hit .100/.222/.100

With the Nats he's gotten 26 ABs in 8 games and is hitting .385/.429/.500

Small sample, but maybe what some of these guys need is a little more playing time and less sporadic playing time with match up based lineups.
