2020-08-18: Brewers (Burnes) at Twins (Maeda) [Brewers lose, 4-3 in 12 innings -- Brewers spoil Maeda’s no hit bid in the 9th and rally for 3 runs, but fail to get a run across in extras]

Eye Black

Hiura seems to come way in front of the base to take the throw from the C; not sure if that's because ON has a bad arm or what but it seems like he'd be better served by just catching the ball at the base.

Nice pitch by Perdomo.

He's safe at 2nd.

If Yelich isn't hitting at an MVP level and Hiura continues to strike out at this rate this offense will be one of the worst in baseball. We know that Sogard and Smoak can't get it done but our star offensive players have both been terrible.

Off of what are we basing Hiura being a "star offensive player?" I guess he had a nice half season while striking out 35% of the time but so have over half of major league ball players. Personally, I need more of a sample size before I'm going that far.

Hiura has elite bat speed and was very good for us last year. He can definitely be a star offensive player.

He also just turned 24 a couple weeks ago, and has less than a full season of MLB at bats under his belt. There's going to be growing pains for sure. We are seeing them this season as pitchers get a book on him. It's going to be up to him to evolve.

I mean I thought Rickie Weeks could be too. You gotta put the bat on the ball more often. Hope he can get it together.

Arms look lively. And young. And controllable. Just wish there was some more position player excitement in the system. There may be a couple guys there, but wow...without a trade or a great draft class, we might be seeing stopgap guys for a while.

We don't have one legitimate bat even close to the majors. This is my issue with our drafts the last few years.

Pretty easy to trade arms for bats. The other way around is harder.

He has completely raked every season he has played baseball except for the 21 games this season?

3/4 of our bench players today:

Arcia - .804 OPS

Gyorko - .816 OPS

Pina - 1.012 OPS

I love me some match ups, but the above guys are producing while the embarrassing likes of Gamel/Narvaez/Smoak/Sogard suck pretty much regardless of whatever pitches to them. It has been shown many times so far this season our LHB line up is not being very productive. Maybe we should just go with the producing bats once and see how they do, can’t be much worse.

I hope the Brewers break up the no-hitter with a bunt now, only to hear the Twins whine about it like when Tim Anderson bat flipped them last year.

Yeah, if it’s against the unwritten rules to bunt to break up a no-hitter, it should be to bunt when you are throwing a no-hitter too.

I'm going to give him a break because hes nervous but he has to throw strikes. Big arm no doubt but control issues will kill any chances at success.

The only reason the Blue Jays gave up on a 6'8" lefty with dominant-type stuff, allowing the Brewers to get him for nothing, was that he has had difficulty throwing strikes throughout his career. Yeah, he's likey very nervous, but control issues aren't really surprising.
