2020-07-29: Brewers (Woodruff) at Pirates (Musgrove) [Brewers win, 3-0 -- Pirates manage just one infield hit as Woodruff dominates]

Eye Black
I know it's only been six games so you don't know everyone's bullpen role for sure yet, but I'm a little surprised it seems Hader has only been used in classic closer 9th inning situations.

I think all of this is out the window this year. The season is two months long.

Knebel should get some save opportunities.... along with KRod and Jeffress when they are picked midseason.

I know he's going to snap out of this eventually, but it would be total Milwaukee Brewer sort of fortune if we were to blow our payroll wad for the next decade on Christian Yelich and see his career nosedive from there.

You are going to have to explain this one to me better.... We actually sign a MVP super star in his prime for a long term contract and then he what, tanks? That is what we are known for here in Milwaukee? Yeah, that happens here all the time. More like never.

He’s saying it would be the luck of our franchise to sign a superstar to a huge contract and then have him tank. Not that it happens frequently.

"Milwaukee Brewer sort of fortune".... he's saying unlucky things happen here often then, this being the latest. It's something Cubs fans would say about their team since bad luck is the reason their team didn't win it this year.

Does anyone think of the Brewers as "unlucky". Having a smaller payroll in a small market with no salary cap is the reason we often miss the playoffs and rarely celebrate playoffs. Being mismanaged may play a part too, especially in the 90's and early 2000's....but unlucky? We have stunk sure, but albeit we recently made the playoffs twice in back to back seasons. And if he's trying to compare Yelich's deal/performance to Braun's 2nd extension, Suppan's FA deal, or Higuera's deal, it's not the same in any way.

It’d probably be reasonably fair to compare it to Teddy Higuera basically never pitching effectively again after getting his big deal or Ben McDonald getting hurt in the prime of his career with his career ending just a year after establishing himself as a legit ace.

Obviously, it’s not likely to unfold that way and is likely to be closer in comparison to the drop off of Braun, but when the Brewers have put themselves out there in the past for some players, it has in fact bitten them a bit.
