Prior to the series, I thought Sunday was the most favorable pitching matchup. Yesterday toss-up. Today edge Cubs.

I am happy enough with one win in this series, especially given expanded playoffs and just general weirdness, but pressure starts to pile up quick in a 60-game run.

I guess what I'm saying is: must win! ;)

Well the hitters were completely unwilling to sit back (they must’ve been afraid of being behind an 88 mph fastball even though no one was) so Darvish might be better for hitters who looked like they were constantly expecting 95 mph yesterday

Lineups added above. Christian Yelich is slated into the DH spot which isn’t something I expected by the 2nd game of the year, but I guess makes sense in the context of having Ben Gamel in today’s lineup. It’s only the 4th time in his career that Yelich has been the designated hitter in a major league game.

I see we are gonna run the Sogard at leadoff experiment into the ground. That's fun.

Who else would you put there?

Cain. For one, I think he hit into some tough luck last year. For two, it goes right, left, right, left, etc. With the new 3 batter minimum rule it would probably make it harder on opposing managers later in games.

I should admit that I am not a fan of Sogard, but hope he repeats his line from last year.

If the Brewers had done a better job drafting position players the last few years they wouldn't be stuck signing guys like Sogard and Smoak. Besides Hiura this system has produced little to nothing offensively. We have done a nice job drafting pitchers of late but the bats are totally lacking in our system.

Heard an interesting stat on yesterday’s Effectively Wild podcast...

In the history of modern baseball only two pitchers have had a >.410 BABIP over a season of at least 45.0 innings pitched. Both occurred last season and both pitched in the NL Central. For the answer click the spoiler below...

In 2019:

Mitch Keller had a .475 BABIP over 48.0 innings pitched.

Corbin Burnes had a .414 BABIP over 49.0 innings pitched.

Again, those are the two highest BABIPs in history for a season of more than 45.0 IP.

Do the Brewers even have a good Changeup guy among their pitchers? My guess is they don't and it was their first go in several months seeing that pitch.

Wish they could have gotten to him that inning, but after Hendricks throws a 103-pitch complete game last night at least the Brewers got a couple of hits and force Darvish to throw 20 pitches in the 1st inning.

The Cubs bullpen is pretty clearly their weakness, hopefully the Brewers can get to it at some point this afternoon.
