WIAA will hold fall sports season; delays most starting dates

Anyone following either basketball tournaments? Any thoughts on how the WIAA did the girls this weekend or the same for the boys next weekend?

 

For a while now I thought the WIAA should go the way of holding five classes at five different sites and televise D1 and stream the other divisions. And given that, maybe return to the days of eight teams and the consolation bracket.

 

This year, three classes at La Crosse and two at Oshkosh. Each class plays semis and final the same day.

 

Playing the semifinals and final on the same day is up there with the dumbest things the WIAA ever did. Watching kids gassed in the finals is brutal. It’s the biggest games of their lives and your asking kids to play 70+ minutes of high intensity basketball in a day.

 

 

They are High School kids. If you can't play two games in one day, you really don't deserve a State Title.

 

HS Sports are different this year. Everyone has had to adjust. Other sports have had to have athletes compete multiple times in the day to win a State Title this year as well.

 

I'm with you. I don't see this as a big deal at all. At 17 I could play basketball at the park for 8 hours without subbing out. They'll be fine.
