2020 Miscellaneous NFL News

I agree. Even the in-game announcers started ripping the players as if it was an easy call to make on the fly. I'll guarantee that all NFL coaches talked through that situation in meetings this week about what to do if they see it again.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

The best RB in Bears history!

My Grandparents went to Packers games their whole lives and my Grandma had season tickets since the 60's.

She HATED the Bears...but loved Gail Sayers. This was a women who I vividly remembering would wish for the 90's Cowboy stars to get hurt. Though she'd clarify, she didn't want to see career ending injuries...just season enders. She did have a heart after all!

But yeah, she was always a Sayers fan and said he was one of the nicest guys she's ever watched. Never thought to ask when she was alive how she knew that since I believe he came along long after her Dad stopped working at the stadium(he did the scoreboard). Must have just been from his interviews.

RIP the Kansas Commet.

At the risk of digging up old wounds, the Falcons onside kick fail paints Brandon Bostic in a better light. If I’m a fan of the receiving team and a TE has a chance to cleanly field an onside kick, I want the TE to try and catch it 10 times out of 10. We’re not talking about a lineman or LB. Bostic was a professional pass catcher. I wish the outcome were different, but I don’t fault him for trying to recover the ball (even with Jordy right behind him).

I think his career statistics might disagree with you. ;)

The thing about Bostic was that the ball bounced as expected, yet he didn't execute the play as designed. No guarantees that Jordy catches the ball, but with him blocking, there is a better opportunity without the other team trying to dislodge the ball.

If the play had gone in an unexpected manner, I wouldn't have faulted him for trying to catch it. He gets knocked for not doing his job (i.e. blocking).

I hear ya. He probably should have blocked. In his defense, he played wide receiver (and basketball) in college. He was a marginal NFL tight end, but a very good athlete. Nodakfan doesn’t fault him for trying. It’s better than standing around watching. I’d be fine with any current Packer tight end fielding the ball in that situation (except Sternberger :tongue).

While I would also prefer aggressiveness over standing there and watching the other team recover the ball, as a TE not only was he a professional pass catcher but he was also a professional blocker, and his job on that play was to block.

And Nelson was particularly sure handed and very good at fielding onside kicks. All Bostic had to do was put a body on his guy and that game's over.

It was a unique kick in the Atl-Dallas game. That was a smart move by Dallas to give ATL a different look. No tee, just kick it off the turf and put a different spin on it. Still inexcusable for Atlanta, but I'm sure if one of the guys who was told to block on that play decided instead to try and pick it up...didn't field it cleanly, people would have jumped all over them as well.

It was a stupid play, but not Leon Lett stupid.

Give credit to Zuerlein. I’m not sure the ball is fielded cleanly due to its spin. The recovery team probably weighed the odds of the ball not going 10 yards vs the chances of muffing the recovery and thought it best to wait. My first thought was - ‘that’s not going 10 yards.’ It was just a great kick.

Random thought:

Fast forward to February. It's Packers/Chiefs in the Super Bowl. The day before the game, one of Rodgers or Mahomes tests positive for COVID-19, but has no symptoms.

Would the league stick with protocol or do everything in their power to cover it up?

If it is a high profile player they are definitely covering it up and probably going to postpone the game especially if it is the Super Bowl.

Atlanta is blowing another big late lead. Incredible.

They led 26-10 going into the 4th quarter.

Right now, Dan Quinn should be about as nervous as the 55 year old guy in your office who refuses to learn PowerPoint or use an Outlook calendar.

I can see Outlook calendar but PowerPoint needs to die in a fire and then be revived and thrown back into the fire and then revived again and then thrown into a volcano and then 10 nuclear bombs dropped on it just to make sure it is finally dead.

IIRC, too much time was left. If they would have done three running plays into the line, they have to punt it back.

I'm that 54 year old guy. Actually, I like PowerPoint. When I was at Cummins, they used it all the time worldwide. I still have Access on my home PC.
