Wilson and Mahomes had and have good offensive lines. I believe that is being overlooked here. I don't believe Trubisky has ever had a good OL maybe his first year but each year after that it has been bad and this year is just awful.

Go back to Couch and one other that I am forgetting that set the record for being sacked or hit. QB's are only as good as their offensive lines if the OL is bad your QB is going to be bad. The same goes for the RB, WR and TE positions especially RB. I believe OL is far more important than the QB everything in football starts with the OL.

Rodgers has 4 seasons being sacked 46 times or more and was at 22 when played 7games in a season. Trubisky has a high at 38. Rodgers sacked 50times the Super Bowl year.

Always felt the line was overrated up to 3 years ago. Rodgers escaped so many certain sacks that Trubisky and bottom 90% of NFL Qbs never would or could.

Taysom Hill is apparently getting the start for the Saints Sunday against the Falcons. That's fun.

I picked him up and plugged him right in at TE.

Dang, he's only a qb in my league.

Remember what Yoda said:

"Cubs lead to Cardinals. Cardinals lead to dislike. Dislike leads to hate. Hate leads to constipation."

Sacks are not the only thing to look at but the number of times the QB has been hit and also the rushing yards by the RB after the point of contact and where that initial point of contact will tell you how good of an OL a team has. The Packers have had a good to an above average line almost every year that Rodgers has been the QB. There have been a few years where he has had a below average OL. Also need to look at how long the QB was holding the ball for if it was more than 3 seconds then that is not on the OL. Anything better than 3 seconds means the QB is getting enough time to look down the field and go from read 1 to 2 and then to 3. A lot of Rodgers sacks in the Packers SB win were at the longer period of times. Just two years ago I believe the worry was that Rodgers was taking too long in the pocket to throw the ball and was looking for the deep threat all the time. You don't get to do that with a poor OL.

Rodgers sack evasion is not all that good anymore maybe during his first few years of starting he was but not any more. Trubisky has actually excelled at evading sacks it is decision making after doing that have been the problem.

I wonder if Hill will "start" and then Jameis jump in the game after the wildcat stuff has been run a bit. That's what I would've done. I would've announced Hill as my "starter" and then used Jameis as my actual QB.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Burrow tweeted he's done for the year. Too bad, he was having a pretty good year on a bad team.

I was having a pretty darn good daily fantasy game with Burrow as QB. One of these days I'll hit it big.

I wonder if Joe Burrow’s injury will change the way team’s handle their franchise quarterbacks in their first year? Injuries can happen at any time, but did he really have the best line in place to minimize his hits? Would he have been better served by a red shirt year while the Bengals invested more draft capital or free agency money in protecting him up front? I know the Packers have been blessed in the QB department and a 3-year apprenticeship is an absolute luxury, but is one year too much to ask? Are owners and GMs that obsessed with instant gratification?

Well, ownership and GMs need that instant gratification for $$, so I'd guess we wont be seeing that change with quarterbacks for awhile, if ever.

If Burrows was playing like crap then maybe. But if a team thinks a guy is ready it seems counterproductive to me to not play him just in case he gets hurt. If that's their concern then they probably should sit every starter until they think the team is ready to contend.

I agree Burrow was probably ready to play this year and that “red shirting” NFL players would not make sense in the vast majority of situations, but for the #1 overall pick? A guy who just won the NCAA championship and whom you believe to be a generational talent? I’d consider it. I couldn’t find PFF offensive line rankings for this year, but PFF released a pre-season report that ranked the Bengals 31 of 32 going into the 2020 season.

Burrows isn't the first #1 pick of a QB that had to play behind a horrible line. Nor will he be the last. It might be a little easier now to bench a #1 pick because the cap hit isn't as big as 20 years ago, but just look at how much flak the Packers are getting for "benching" their first round pick.

Everyone says Stafford is underrated. I think he's appropriately rated.

I'm ok with the division winner getting an automatic playoff spot. I wouldn't be opposed to the better record team getting home field, though.

The playoff field has already been watered down enough with 7 teams that adding the #8 team in lieu of the division winner isn't likely to be a super deserving team either.

Mike McCarthy went for it on his own 34 yard line in a 10-10 game with halftime about 5 minutes away. Instead of a QB sneak or running in general (like a foot for a first down) he opted for an outside pass that was not completed. It failed and to make matters worse there was a 15 yard penalty on Dallas to set up the Redskins on the 19 yard line. The Redskins then scored a touchdown.

When a similar situation came up shortly after he called a QB sneak and they easily converted.

McCarthy in Dallas has not made me miss him one bit.
