I wonder if they could just extend the season a week or two.

Knock of two weeks of preseason games? I’d be fine with that.

One downside would be less game tape evaluations of players that are trying to make the roster. Maybe teams would do a closed scrimmage against other teams for that? Outside the box thinking would be to add some time to one of the preseason games to get some more film but I don’t think that would fly.

I'm talking about this year if the Titans situation gets out of control.

No chance. Remember how much of a pain in the butt it was rescheduling the Super Bowl after 9/11? I'm sure Tampa Stadium doesn't have a scheduling conflift but it would still be a logistical nightmare.

I guess the logistics would depend on what they allow in terms of fans or halftime show. If this sort of thing happens after all the bye weeks are done I'm not sure what other options there will be.

And we literally just moved an entire league inside a bubble in Orlando. I think they'll figure out the logistics.

If moving the Super Bowl back would be an issue, you could just push the Pro Bowl back after the Super Bowl. Probably fewer logistics with that because it is much less of an event.

Agreed. Or just can it altogether.

They have done plenty of years with just one week between conference championships and the Super Bowl rather than two, so pushing everything back a week shouldn't affect the Super Bowl.

Cam Newton tests positive and is out tomorrow. Word is the Patriots are holding off on their departure to KC.

Looks like they are playing Mon or Tues. And apparently, there were positive tests on both teams.

If I was Trevor Lawrence and the Jets do indeed get the #1 overall pick in the draft, I would pull an Elway/Eli.

I think I agree with this. On the other hand, there will be a new coach, its NY, and New England's reign of terror is ending leaving a winnable division. Buffalo looks promising tho

Yeah but the organization is still a cluster, which is the reason Elway and Eli did what they did. They could hire a coach who is just as bad as Gase, or at best, a marginal improvement.

Although now that I think about it, Lawrence still has one more year of eligibility left. He could pull a Peyton.

Lawrence will be start his career on a bad team one way or the other. I'd certainly rather be a Jet than with Washington or Jacksonville.

Always possible that if the new Jets coaching staff doesn't totally dislike Darnold that they'll love the idea of an extra few first-round picks to trade the pick. Jacksonville has #4 and #22, and they'd be a good candidate to want Lawrence.

A week ago, I was pretty optimistic about the NFL season being played to completion. Now, I think it’s 50/50.

They said the same thing about baseball a week into the season. In fact, I think people were a lot less optimistic than 50/50.

There's way too much money on the line for them not to see this through all the way, and they will. If they have to push the Super Bowl back to March, it gets pushed back to March.

These are not unexpected developments. This was never going to go perfectly.

I believe the NFL said before the year they would make up games the week after week 17 and push the start of the playoffs back if needed. One week wouldn't effect the Super Bowl. Any more would certainly cause problems.

The NFL has plans and reserved rooms and facilities for 4 weeks after the SB. So while I'm sure it'd cause problems, they've anticipated playing the game a month later than it's currently scheduled to be played.

Boy, I'd love a Super Bowl in March. It'd be a great way to end the winter season and bring on summertime baseball. Football starts a month too early as it is. Plus that gives baseball more time to finish up once it adopts a permanent 16-team playoff format.

FB for the Saints tested positive after they landed in Detroit. Just the one guy so far....might be false positive.

Yeah, that's true, but that doesn't mean Football isn't in trouble. You have over twice the roster size, it's in the fall(remember the Summer was supposed to be the healthy time) so the likelihood of the virus spreading is worse...

I’ve got soccer on my mind because I just finished the first season of Ted Lasso on Apple TV, but the Jets are the reason the NFL should consider relegation. Otherwise, there’s no punishment for teams being badly mismanaged. They still make loads of cash. Oh, you drafted a quarterback #3 overall and that didn’t work out? Here’s the #1 overall pick. I’m only half joking.

I think it's also fair to note that it's much, much harder to make up NFL games than it is to have multiple 7-inning double headers in baseball. You basically have to have two teams find room in their schedule and extend their season by a week. One game is probably doable, but if a team has to juggle now and again due to positive tests in November, that team is going to be a logistical nightmare for the league.

I'm not saying that this isn't going to cause some difficulties. But frankly, I'm surprised they made it all the way to Week 4 before a game had to be moved. It's gone about as well as I had hoped for.

All I'm saying is, there are a lot of contingencies that can and will be put into place before the "Cancel Season" button gets pushed. That is their absolute last resort. The NFL has had months to prepare for all possible scenarios and put contingencies in place, they did not go into this just crossing their fingers and hoping for the best. It's possible the Super Bowl gets pushed back. It's possible some teams play less than 16 games. It's possible that the season gets "paused" at some point and the schedule gets reconfigured to 10-12 games.

No doubt they have guys specifically monitoring everything who know the schedule in and out and have numerous possible avenues on the table. The only way I think the season just gets flat out cancelled is if numerous states start issuing stay at home orders again and I just don't think that is going to happen.
