Yelich, Hiura, and Mitchell. Our lineup’s gonna be insane in a few years

There are obviously no guarantees, but it’s easy to dream on Mitchell’s profile developing into one of the better left-handed leadoff hitters the Brewers have had in awhile.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

I’ve read reports that his arm may be the biggest cannon of any none pitcher. Seen it anywhere between 60-80 grade. Match that will 70-80 grade speed & elite tracking. Even if his hit tool only lets him hit .240ish he will still be able to deeply impact the game. Not to mention damage he can do when on base. Mitchell is a triple machine. He is a threat go first to third on any hit. Easily go 1st to home in anything towards the gaps. He is just an electric athlete.

Best part is he appears to be very coachable & continues to make adjustments to improve at the plate

Don’t forget Lutz.

Our OF will be stacked... Yeli, Mitchell, Lutz... Big power in the corners and elite speed in center.

Will he sign for slot or is he a below slot pick?

He was project top 10 talent. Zero chance he signs below 20th slot money. Hopefully he signs at or not too much over.

I'm afraid he is Corey Ray part 2.

If you read all the reports above it said Mitchell had a 12% k rate. Ray was always somebody who was a higher K rate potential in the 20s that sits in the 30s or higher at times today. So while Ray may have been a projected .245/.315/.490 type Mitchell is going to be more in line at .280/.340/.440 type.

I said in the other draft thread, nothing but good vibes for this draft. My last post mentioned they may get a BPA slide to them who they will offer full slot to, I'd think Mitchell qualifies.

I like it. Crow Armstrong was a player I thought would seem to fit, Mitchell is the higher projected of the two. Armstrong went 19th. Team has a bigger need currently for a position player future hitter after Ray's bust.

You could maybe dream outcomes on him being a Joc Pederson, or a Cody Bellinger depending on how the plus power comments during BP are reflected in games at the ML level. He will steal more bases so maybe you go on a Lorenzo Cain projection line. New Decade, we may have drafted the Franchise's best 1st round pick for this decade!

Actually, take that 60ish hit tool, the defense, and speed... I see a Lorenzo Cain/Scott Podsednik type. Gap power, defense, lots of steals...

Don't mess with the swing. Take it, and maybe see what his OBP skills are like. If he draws a ton of walks.. so much the better.

If he stays in CF, and it looks like he will, he won't have to hit for a lot of power to have value. Diabetes is a bad thing, reminded of Dylan Covey.

The difference between the two is the Brewers discovered Covey’s diabetes as part of his physical after the draft and it was a shock to Covey and something he needed to learn to manage for the first time. Mitchell has managed his diabetes since he was 9 years old and seemingly has full control of caring for himself.

So, do we have the 16th pick in the 2nd round?

If so, who are some of the early hopefuls that might be available that some would like to see us take?

Wilcox, Dingler, or Beeter. Though I’m not sure if any of them will be available by then.

Would love to see one of those guys drop to us in the 2nd round, but I'm guessing the chances probably aren't great.

Huge difference between a kid who was undiagnosed for almost a year and one who has had it a part of his life since he was a little kid. In fact I have read articles with Covey saying if he didn't get that physical done it was a matter of weeks till he would have been in a coma from going undiagnosed for almost a year.

I love the idea of getting this kid around Cain to help learn work ethic.

Weird comment.

no, perhaps weird interpretation though. This kid is a phenomenal talent, and getting him into big league camp around one of the hardest workers in baseball, one of the best defenders, can only be a positive. Mitchell has BP power turning pro, Cain was a DFE with raw tools. If Mitchell can model himself after any player in terms of his position, that's Cain.

maybe you thought I was dissing him, but that's not what was said. Cain has big league, maximizing talent, all-star, gold-glove level work ethic.

Agreed. I have about a dozen diabetic students each year. Nearly all are pretty good about learning to manage their diabetes. However, I've had a few that weren't able to recognize their own highs and lows, leading to major challenges at times. I'm not worried about his diabetes. Sounds like he knows how to manage it, and he'll have his trainers and team dietitians on speed dial at all times.

Not sure if this is good or bad, but for a current player comp, Mitchell reminds me of a left handed batting AJ Pollock.

Could lead off and was a good value pick at where we got him.

Solid player but with limited upside IMO.

ESPN compared him to Trea Turner. Obviously the upside is always less if you go college over high school, but I think they took the top player left on their board. I’m happy

Seems like an outstanding pick at #20.

Without knowing anything about him other than what's been posted here, a guy with natural raw power who hasn't utilized it in games in favor of lots of contact to complement plus speed makes me think of Carlos Gomez, i.e. a guy who is a few coaching adjustments away from becoming a true beast in centerfield.

I like the Mitchell pick and hopefully he comes in near slot value, so they don't have to save money later. In the second round, I will stick with my Workman pick although college hitters seem to be going off the board quick. The early 50s could be a sweet spot for college pitching (Henry, Mace, Swiney, Nicolas, L. Allen, Carraway, Roa).
