2020 Draft Pick Discussion, Rounds 1-5

Community Moderator

Please use this thread to share your thoughts, links, stories, pictures and anything else on the Brewers' picks from rounds 1 through 5. Please do not start separate threads to discuss the individual picks.

Use this in-draft thread to talk about the picks, similar to a game thread. Until the draft actually begins feel free to continue posting pre-draft content in the 2020 MLB Draft thread we have been using for discussion leading up to the draft.

Yesterday the Brewers released approximate times for their draft selection in tonight's 1st round as well as Thursday's rounds 2-5.

The Detroit Tigers are now on the clock for the 2020 MLB Draft.

I always look forward to the MLB Draft, but tonight it takes on an even greater importance for the sport than past years.

Whats the delay? ( I dropped cable tv)

edit........ I see the Tigers finally picked. Next question.........How much time between picks?

The start was delayed while the Commissioner spoke. They don't have an actual countdown clock like the NFL draft, but I think they are getting around 5 minutes or so between picks.

I have no idea who anyone is this year but I am confident I will see lots of potential in the Brewers pick

Cubs with the homer pick. Following Bears lead?

With the 17th pick the Red Sox selected Nicholas Yorke who was ranked inside the top 100 draft publications by Baseball America (96th), but none of the other most notable publications. They are likely setting up to be able to sign some over slot high school players with their future selections.

So is Boston that team that we heard about that wont make a big effort to sign their 1st round pick?

Interesting, that could also be their angle although that seems like a sad manipulation of the system if that is indeed their strategy.

Except if you're drafting someone who expects to be taken in the third round and offer 40% of the first round bonus, that still might be enough that he accepts it, unless he has told the Red Sox that he doesn't want to sign regardless and would be the sacrificial lamb for that strategy.
