He was one of those guys where if he was doing an improv scene everyone on the cast would stop and watch. Just a terrific comedic actor. This is one of my faves (of many):

One of the most effortless comedic actors ever for sure.

 

Pretty sure its only available on YouTube at this point, but even before Fred kind of broke through in Guffman & Best in Show, he was absolutely hilarious in the Cinemax series History of White People in America playing the hapless father of a stereotical suburban 80s family.
