Runyan's fine. Good pick. I just wish my favorite pick so far wasn't a guard in the 6th round.

I kinda get the feeling people are eventually going to really like the Dillon pick the best. He's the type of runner that can piled up yards. Not the type that will have a very long career, but it wouldn't surprise me if he was an All-Pro level RB for a few seasons.

Info from Dane Brugler:

SUMMARY: A two-year starter at Michigan, Runyan lined up at left tackle in offensive coordinator Josh Gattis’ spread, pro-style scheme. As the son of a 14-year pro who was once the highest-paid lineman in the NFL, he was groomed in the sport and became a student of the game. Runyan rarely wastes time searching due to his understanding of protections and pass rush angles, recognizing moves to escort rushers wide of the pocket. However, he can be stressed by high-level speed and he is more of a pusher than drive blocker in the run game. Overall, Runyan was a model of consistency as the Wolverines’ left tackle, but his average feet, length and play strength will be tougher to disguise in the NFL, projecting best at guard.

GRADE: 6th-7th Round

Obviously they feel they addressed the need of WR enough with signing Funchess and riding the other guys they already have on the roster. It is going to be a different offense moving forward. It intrigues me, to say the least.

I can't imagine OJ Howard will be back in Tampa. Maybe we're going to swing something for him for Jamaal Williams and a 2021 4th. That would reconcile the Dillon pick and lack of a receiver taken much better.

I'm hoping we're eventually going to really like the Love pick the most. If not, I'm not sure any of the rest of it will matter much, to tell you the truth. So much on the line with that one.

I think they want to mirror what San Fran does and have 3 backs that could carry the load. Ride the hot hand. Lafleur said as much at one of his press conferences this offseason.

Yeah, obviously ;)

I was talking more immediate gratification. I expect Dillon to have a major role in the 2020 offense.

In theory, with WR being a really deep position it would stand to reason that pushes guys that would be ranked higher in normal years to the UDFA pool, so I'd expect we'll see a bunch of those types added after the draft. Very well could have been Gute's strategy on the position from the beginning.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Packers grab DT Raequan Williams from Michigan State with one of their next two picks. Fits the size and athletic profile they typically look for with their 3-4 DEs.

Let the Jerel Worthy flashbacks commence!

Its going to be a multi year process if that's the end goal. San Francisco is just so far superior athletically to where we are, particularly on the defensive line where we have one great player in Kenny Clark and then a rotation of warm bodies. They could use their running backs interchangeably because their offensive line was so dominant in run blocking.

It's great that they have a long-term vision (whether or not I agree with that vision), but it may be awhile before they really have the personnel to make it work.

info from Dane Brugler draft guide (The Athletic)

Pick 208: Jake Hanson C Oregon (#10 Center)

SUMMARY: A three-star recruit out of high school, Jacob “Jake” Hanson was a two-way player at Eureka, lining up at left tackle on offense and collecting 29 tackles as a senior defensive lineman. He signed with Oregon over several other Pac-12 programs, initially at tackle before moving to center during his redshirt year. He missed two games as a senior, but otherwise played in every other game the last four seasons, starting 49 games at center and earning All-Pac 12 honors each season. Hanson plays with an efficient punch to pepper and slide, using his eyes and aggression on tandem to give defenders his best shot. However, he often relies on guard help, lacking ideal anchor strength in pass pro and upper body power as a run blocker. Overall, Hanson put together an impressive resume due to his well-schooled technique and nasty attitude, but he will struggle vs. the power of NFL interior linemen with questionable position flex, projecting as a possible NFL back-up.

GRADE: 7th Round-Priority Free Agent

Pick 209: Simon Stepaniak G Indiana (#21 Guard)

SUMMARY: A three-star recruit out of high school, Simon Stepaniak (Step-uh-nack) was a three-year starter at Ross High, earning all-state honors as a senior left tackle. He was rated as the No. 47 recruit in the state of Ohio and committed to Indiana over Louisville. He became the starting right guard as a sophomore and earned all-conference honors as a senior, but suffered a torn ACL (December 2019) during bowl practice, sidelining him for the pre-draft process. Stepaniak is built like a vending machine with proportionate body thickness, boasting the upper body torque and flexibility to steer and control defenders once locked on. He is a mean-spirited competitor, although there is a fine line between aggressive and undisciplined, leading to balance issues. Overall, Stepaniak delivers thump at contact and loves doing the dirty work, but he defaults to his strength too often and lacks ideal pass pro quickness, projecting as a possible reserve if his knee is healthy.

GRADE: Priority Free Agent

That sixth round will hopefully bring us some depth to that offensive line.

All three 6th round picks. Very nice!

Certainly like the picks this 6th rd to value. Hanson doesnt read all to well for an everyday starter, but ST? Long snapper future?. The last one from Indiana meh. A project based on read. Maybe learns better form to get away from his weakness and take advantage of his strength. Big dude could just be a big body for punt/FG plays.

With three interior OL taken in the 6th round, I think that means that Lane Taylor is not long for the roster so that they can use his cap space to sign another FA or towards extending Bakh or Clark.

And with drafting Hanson and with Patrick signed through next season, I think that signals moving on from Linsley. I doubt they cut him now, as they can probably get a 4th round comp pick for him if he moves on as a free agent.

Certainly looks that way.

As we have no DBs selected, I'll take a guess that we try and resign Tramon Williams for another season.

Not to be nostalgic - but Clay Matthews as an ILB would be interesting.

All assumes we can afford these guys.
