Simulated 2020 Baseball Season (JosephC)

JosephC
I could do this but I'd be late with the first few games. I didn't realize the season would start tomorrow (just not used to games in March that count). Generally before I start I like to take some time and look through all the setup screens to make sure everything looks right. Probably wouldn't be able to get around to that until Saturday, even if I would purchase OOTP tonight.

It’s obviously up to you, but I would certainly enjoy seeing the results if you’re willing to do it. I think at this point “waiting” until the weekend for some entertainment sounds like 5 minutes compared to the wait for semi-normal life to resume.

I will post my first day of simulated MLB The Show results tomorrow for those interested.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

I've got OOTP setup. I've had OOTP13 and OOTP17 and this is OOTP21, so there are some new things in the setup screen but only one has caught my eye. There is a "hook for starting pitcher" and "hook for relief pitcher." They can be set anywhere from +5 (very slow) to -5 (very quick) and default settings are not at default (0) but at -5 for starters and -3 for relievers. I'm going to leave it at these default settings largely because Counsell has about the quickest hook I've ever seen...I just don't hope it ends up with Brandon Woodruff having 32 starts and only 120 innings in those 32 starts. We'll see what happens.

I've also set it up where I am a GM & Manager that is currently unemployed. Therefore, I have no control over any of the 30 teams.

I'm going to sim through spring training tonight, post the opening day roster and anything newsworthy that happens in spring training and wait until tomorrow to do game 1.

I'm also going to see if uploading files onto this board works or not? So some of my posts will probably look pretty messed up. If I can't figure it that out, I'll just post some quick notes regarding the games with some occasional season stat updates. Also will give some minor league updates as time permits.

OOTP spring training simulation finished.

Opening day roster-

Starting Rotation = Brandon Woodruff, Brent Suter, Adrian Houser, Freddy Peralta, Brett Anderson

Bullpen = Josh Hader (closer), Corbin Burnes (setup), Alex Claudio (setup), Devin Williams (middle), J.P. Feyereisen (middle), Ray Black (middle), David Phelps (middle), Josh Lindblom (long)

Catcher = Omar Narvaez, David Freitas

IF = Justin Smoak, Keston Hiura, Brock Holt, Jedd Gyorko, Eric Sogard, Orlando Arcia

OF = Ryan Braun, Ben Gamel, Christian Yelich, Lorenzo Cain, Avisail Garcia

Brewer's primary lineup:

1. CF-Lorenzo Cain

2. RF-Avisail Garcia

3. 2B-Keston Hiura

4. LF-Christian Yelich

5. 1B-Justin Smoak

6. C-Omar Narvaez

7. SS-Orlando Arcia

8. 3B-Eric Sogard

Injury list = RP-Corey Knebel (3 weeks), SS-Luis Urias (1 week), RF-Tyrone Taylor (3 days)

The one thing I can't figure out is that Manny Pina is showing up on the AAA roster and he's not on a DFA list or anything like that. I've double checked to make sure I have things setup correctly in terms of option years and I do. So I think OOTP blew that one. Logan Morrison also showing up on the AAA but that doesn't bother me as his situation is definitely not the same as Pina's.

MiLB notes:

Prospect Pipeline:

#77 = 2B-Brice Turang

#162 = RHP-Drew Rasmussen

#296 =LHP-Antoine Kelly

#300 = RF-Corey Ray

#309 = C-Mario Feliciano

#316 = RF-Tristen Lutz

#332 = LHP-Ethan Small

#346 = LHP-Aaron Ashby

#368 = CF-Hedbert Perez

#433 = RHP-Zack Brown

#472 = RHP-Max Lazar

I've put the prospect list on dynamic which means it will change everyday. I will post an update every now and then.

Since there will likely be a lot of player shuffling between MLB and AAA, here is the AAA roster-

Starting pitchers = Drew Rasmussen, Eric Lauer, Zack Brown, Alec Bettinger, Aaron Wilkerson

Relief pitchers = Jesus Castillo (closer), Chris Lee (setup), Dylan File (setup), Justin Grimm (middle), Jake Faria (middle), Bubba Derby (long), Shelby Miller (long)

Catcher = Manny Pina, Tuffy Gosewisch

IF = Logan Morrison, Ryon Healy, Andres Blanco, Mark Mathias, Lucas Erceg, Patrick Leonard, Ronny Rodriguez

OF = Jace Peterson, Keon Broxton, Cooper Hummel, Corey Ray

Only other minor league note is that RHP-Noah Zavolas has been released.

Are you guys just going to post the results/box scores? Is it difficult to post highlights or even full games? I've played OOTP for a few years and there is a "highlight" reel after every game--although OOTPs graphics are rather vintage, to be polite (and that is the only sports game that I play, so that's not a slight on the game)

I was really hoping that I could load up one screenshot a day of the boxscore. Looks like it creates a 304 KB .jpg and that size file exceeds the file size limit when I try to do the upload to brewerfan. That kind of sucks. Any suggestions or workarounds would be welcome, I'll be signing off for the night but will take a look at it again tomorrow morning.

Well as far as I can tell MLB The Show doesn’t have Josh Lindblom in this year’s game at all, so it appears they made an even bigger mistake. Sort of frustrating, I guess we’ll pretend he’s hurt.

If you load the screenshots into a flickr account I think you should be able to resize the files from there. That is what I’ve been using.

Ben Gamel PH walk to lead off 11th. Jed Gyrko up now who came in in the 10th. Gyrko Ks swinging. Now Pina again - he swings at ball 4 to take the count full. Swings at ball 4 again and Ks. Back to Brock Holt. Hits weak grounder to Rizzo and that’s the game.

Brewers lost 3-4 to fall to 0-2. It was an ugly game.

One thing I should point out regarding the OOTP sim.

Currently the Brewers only have 31 players on their 40 man roster. However, all players that are currently on the real-life Brewers 40-man roster are still in the Brewer's OOTP organization. Guys like Yardley, Wahl, Nottingham, Mathias, etc are still in the Brewer organization, just not on the 40-man. It does lose some realism, because if the Brewers pick up someone from outside of the organization, they won't be forced to move one of the current players off the 40-man.

I thought about editing it and putting all the 40-man players on the 40-man; however, all the other teams have around 30 players on their 40-man roster as well. Since I'm too lazy to do this for every team, I'm not going to modify anything but just let it play out.

This would not happen in future years of an OOTP sim, as I've played this and most often have to deal with some tough decisions with a near full 40-man roster when the Rule 5 draft is about to happen.

OOTP Brewer's 40-man roster (31 players)-

SP-Brett Anderson, Adrian Houser, Freddy Peralta, Brent Suter, Brandon Woodruff

RP-Ray Black, Corbin Burnes, Alex Claudio, J.P. Feyereisen, Corey Knebel, Josh Lindblom, David Phelps, Devin Williams, Josh Hader (closer)

C-David Freitas, Omar Narvaez

IF-Ryon Healy, Justin Smoak, Keston Hiura, Brock Holt, Jedd Gyorko, Eric Sogard, Orlando Arcia, Ronny Rodriguez, Luis Urias

OF-Ryan Braun, Ben Gamel, Christian Yelich, Lorenzo Cain, Avisail Garcia, Tyrone Taylor

Another quick March 27 note, the Padres sign Yasiel Puig to a 1 year, 5.7 million dollar deal.

I’m enjoying reading the posts from those participating in this thread. Unfortunately game two didn’t go as well in my simulation.

Game #2 - Cubs at Brewers - March 28, 2020 (MLB The Show Sim)

Final Score: Cubs 3, Brewers 2

Game Recap: The good news is Adrian Houser pitched a strong pitching six innings to start the season with the only damage being a pair of solo home runs. The bad news is Jason Heyward tallied three total solo home runs in the game which accounted for all of the Cubs scoring on the night. For the Brewers Lorenzo Cain had a two hit night and Omar Narváez hit his second home run of the season, tonight’s was off of Cubs starter Yu Darvish. Keston Hiura had another hitless game (0-4 with 3 strikeouts). Corbin Burnes gave up the decisive home run in the 8th inning, after two appearances this season he has allowed 5 hits and 4 earned runs over 1.1 innings pitched.

After two games played every team in the NL Central is sitting at 1-1. [sarcasm]I guess this thing really is going to be a dogfight![/sarcasm]

Would be 2-0 if Counsell knew what the hell he was doing. I mean, not starting Braun is a fireable offense.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

We have a roster move before the game. Tyrone Taylor added to the 25-man roster, Ben Gamel optioned to AAA.

I third that opinion. Im not a big fan where Suter is the Game 2 starter in one simulation as he was clearly going to be in bullpen. The one above having Williams pitching 9th innings? No kneble, Phelps, Hader?

There was another playing David Freitas at C. Another no way does he start at catcher before Narvaez or Pina first series vs the Cubs.

Can you guys play GM and set up the roles like bullpen? The Suter start had Williams come in after him. The other two games had Williams finishing both. That Freitas game he played batted below Sogard. Bad platoon as Narvaez should be batting lefty vs RH Hendriks. And ahead of Sogard. Combined those two 10LOB.

Lastly. Yelich batting cleanup? He has 0PAs as a Brewer batting cleanup. 2yrs. Not 1. Should have a setting he bats either 2nd or 3rd in daily lineups.
