COVID-19 Thread

The solution is the implementation and expansion of the rapid tests so that we know who to isolate and who doesn't need to be isolated.

The problem is that they need to make 5,000,000 of those tests a day, not the 50,000 that Abbott said they can make.

Exactly. We need to get organized if we are going to do anything more than have everyone sit inside all day.

We need expanded testing and a way to test for antibodies. Every nonessential factory that can be repurposed should have done so week ago.

People who have recovered should be the first to return to work or even retrain recovered unemployed individuals to perform admin or easy healthcare work. Drycleaners are still open, release plans online for people to sew masks at home. Have a QA program at drycleaners to receive them, then clean them.

I'm just brainstorming, but this is going to take some overall direction from the Federal Government. States can't do this on their own because if WI gets over the worst, but someone drives up from Florida and infects 100 people, WI starts all over.

Unemployment is up to 32% now.

My state's park system has laid off all seasonal employees now. Still the prayer to be able to hire them all back as soon as safely possible, but laying them off instead of a furlough just makes it easier for them to apply for unemployment benefits.

It's already known that China destroyed evidence and waited way too long to alert the world about this. But when this is all over, China isn't going to see the slightest negative reaction from the rest of the world for this. Zero. The rest of the world will go right back to sucking up to the Chinese government in order to get their money, along with the notion that to criticize the Chinese government somehow also means you dislike the actual people.

Isn't it safe to assume US intelligence agencies knew exactly what was going on despite China's efforts? Not trying to make a political argument or start a conspiracy theory, I just this its a safe assumption to say they knew exactly what was going to happen.

A lady from Michigan called to set up a no contact in-your-yard-a-gram (looking for suggestions for a better term) and she told me the weed shops are doing curb side pickup. She said she never thought she'd see the day when it was easier to get weed than toilet paper. At least people haven't lost their sense of humor yet.

Wisconsin saw their biggest daily increase yet with 199 new positive cases. 13.7% of tests were positive on the day, much higher than the average rate of about 8.2%.

Yea. It's going to be the old saying, it's going to get worse before it gets better.

I don't know how long a test takes to get back (I know it used to be 5 days), but If you walked it back plus took into consideration a buffer time to show symptoms the next few days should reflect the majority of cases right before the stay at home order. By the mid-end of next week the positive cases should be mostly reflecting infections happening after the stay at home order started.

The lecturing from the elites of the country to stay home has been quite rich. Also, I like Tom Hanks, but first he contracts COVID-19 in Australia, then gives us a nice speech on what social distancing is and why we all need to be safe, the irony apparently lost on him. Then following recovery, him and Rita Wilson immediately return to the U.S because they're celebrities and they can.

Arnold Schwarzenegger scolding from his jacuzzi smoking a cigar was priceless enough, and then we get David Geffen showing off his lovely social distancing yacht.

As nice as it would be, many of us do not have access to an 8 acre mansion with gyms, pools, and jacuzzis to practice our social distancing, as well as plenty of access to stockpiled necessary supplies.

I'm not begrudging them for having that access, just maybe keep in mind while you're doing it that many of us don't have the luxury to hunker down indefinitely without leaving, and many more of us need to continue to go to work to help keep the functions alive that support your affluent lifestyle, ok?

Everyone understands the importance of social distancing by this point. If an individual is not already practicing it, their mind will not be changed by an elite celebrity talking down to them.

Madonna did a video saying how coronavirus was the great equalizer. Apparently unaware that doing so in bathtub filled with rose petals, in a room bigger than my house showed the exact opposite. I can't imagine how tough it is to stay put in an apartment.

I find it offensive that all these big time stars think that anyone, any single person, gives a flying crap what they think and say.

It is all a giant plea to somehow stay relevant in the minds of the general public.

It's disgusting.

Many of these stars have tens of millions of followers on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. Just a few weeks ago the surgeon general publically asked celebrities to spread the word about social distancing. Many people listen to advice from celebrities more than elected officials. Not saying I agree with it, but a lot of people put celebrities on a pedestal and pay attention to every single one of their social media posts.

Yea, I wish it was true not a single person cared, but millions do. There's a whole lot of people that know more about the Kardashians' lives than their own family, sorry to say.

And if someone isn't capable of soaking in the non-stop news about what you should be doing/ not doing, but they get it from 2 Chainz on Instagram, purpose served.

That said...there's a difference between a celeb pulling out their phone, doing a selfie video from their couch begging people to stay at home as opposed to a video like Madonna, Arnold and others have done. They need to have some awareness of what life is like for people that aren't uber rich. We don't have indoor basketball courts, pools (some do of course), giant movie rooms, mansions, etc. And many of us have to go out to get food, work, etc...things that most celebs rarely have to worry about right now.

Yep. Those people are polarizing whether you like it or not. They’re influencers on many things in people’s lives. It’s easy to tune them out if you don’t like it.

Just sitting on your couch doesn't get clicks. You proved the point, we all have seen (or at least heard about) Madonna, Arnold, etc. So the news-averse crowd is at least getting the message somehow, and that's all that matters. It doesn't bother me, as I'll never see any of their outlandish crap. Except for Sam Jackson, that was hilarious.

But does that really help? People saw the video, but are they getting the message? Or are they just remembering that they came across as they did? I dunno. It is what it is. You're probably right though, at least some of if it is getting through.

I want them to keep talking. Maybe at some point we'll realize what they really are and stop viewing fame or wealth as a virtue.

Janesville Police have now begun forcibly closing businesses that have refused to heed the essential business order. I'm sure different people have different feelings about that, but I don't think there's a universe where creative gardening is an essential business.
