Anticipated minor league rotations

BrewForLife

I found this from minor league optimism thread and wanted to see what everyone is thinking about where minor league starters would be slotted to begin 2020 MiLB

AAA: Burnes, Peralta, Supak, Brown, Jankins

AA: Bettinger, File, Francis, Rasmussen, Zavalos

A+: Ashby, Small, Lazar, Bennett, Castaneda/Sunitsch

A: Jarvis, Olson, Kelly, Lindell, Walters, Luna, Lemons if he's ready

Honestly,

I would like to see Rassmussen pushed faster and in the pen. I think that Bett and File could come up and move Jankins to the AAA pen and FPeralta to the MIL pen. This would open up Small and NBennett (the college lefties) to start in AA. On the other hand, do you want to send younger staff into PCL batting boxes and get shelled? Thoughts?

Seems like competition will weed out the players from the pretenders. Trades and bullpen assignments will come before the Rule V decisions by the end of the year.

Peralta will be in Milwaukee, whether in the pen or not. At this point, I believe Burnes will also be there at least to start the season. So I believe that moves Francis up to AAA and Johan Belisario will take the 5th spot in the rotation there. Ashby will most likely start at AA in that scenario with one of Jarvis/Olson at A+. I’m also not sure if they will have Lindell in the rotation at Wisconsin.

This was awhile ago when I thought they would add more pitchers 1st off.

AAA: Burnes, Peralta, Supak, Brown, Jankins

AA: Bettinger, File, Francis, Rasmussen, Zavalos

A+: Ashby, Small, Lazar, Bennett, Castaneda/Sunitsch

A: Jarvis, Olson, Kelly, Lindell, Walters, Luna, Lemons if he's ready

I think they keep Rasmussen as an opener so they can manage him. Remember Hader started in the minors for all but 2 games where he pitched the 1st 2 innings and then he was in MKE in the pen.

Peralta can be swapped with Miller since we didn't add as many arms as I hoped and news on him got pretty interesting.

AAA: Burnes, Miller, Supak, Brown, Jankins

AA: Bettinger, File, Francis, Small, Rasmussen/Zavalos

A+: Ashby, Lazar, Bennett, Castaneda, Sunitsch

A: Jarvis, Olson, Kelly, Walters, Luna or Lemons if he's ready

I doubt the AA guys get jumped straight into AAA. I think they need to start in AA and A+ and see where things go. Brown is not inspiring a lot of confidence as of late. Supak needs to bounce back. Honestly, Jankins (with limited upside) is probably one of the better AAAA starters they have right now. Even if you bumped Ashby or Small to AA to start the year I think that would put Zavalos as the piggy back with Rasmussen.

Let's be frank about it. AAA other than Burnes looks like a collection of guys who found their wall and hit it hard. It's going to be interesting to see how MKE handles that.

The Brewers brought 90% of the potential AAA and AA bullpen arms over to big league camp but not most of last year’s AA starting crew. Belisario was among the guys brought over, so I wonder if he is ticketed for the bullpen. I’m probably trying to do too much tea leaf reading.

One guy who wasn’t but could be a rotation piece in Biloxi is Webb.

Don't think that's over thinking one bit. They know they need to see what they have in this cluster of arms. They've made mention of having to figure out the pen. Hader Phelps Claudio Black Suter and Lauer (I guess) are leading the way for 6 spots. But 2-3 are completely up in the air and there's a long list of guys pushing for those spots. None of them are promised anything and a few leading candidates didn't start off clean.

As for Webb, I think he's old enough, has struggled enough and is surrounded by too many guys who look better than him for them to go back to him as a starter unless this group gets thinned out somehow.

I had the same thought on Webb, except that if they don't bump Small, Ashby or I guess even Sunitsch up and Rasmussen doesn't get stretched out, the list of potential fifth starters at Biloxi isn't huge.

Also, Webb was absent from the lengthy list of guys brought up to Big League camp (Bickford, Belisario, Hintzen, Lee, Hitt, Hardy, Beckman, Brown, Topa, Derby, Barker and QTC), just like the File, Bettinger, Francis, Zavalos quartet.

That means absolutely nothing. Sometimes in the past the team has requested a certain player. Sometimes they simply have said "we need an extra outfielder" with no deep meaning behind whomever the coordinators send over.

It just seemed like it might this year because it appears as if it hasn't been a day-to-day thing with different players getting sent over each day to the best of my knowledge. All of the guys have been listed as available in the boxes I checked, and the starters were noteworthy in their absence when pretty much every other pitcher with even a shot at the AA and AAA rosters is in big league camp either in that group or on an NRI. I just figured if they might be grabbing guys who didn't need to be stretched out given that they already have the likely AAA rotation in camp via NRIs.

I see the tea leaves there. It's better to stretch the starters out in side sessions and simulated games then in ST. They only have enough games to stretch out so many guys in live action. It would seem strange though. He bombed at AA starting and wasn't good in A+ starting. Then seemed useful out of the pen. Soon to be 25, I don't know. Maybe he's simply outside consideration for the MLB pen at this point. That long list doesn't seem to include anyone who is a STARTER other than Brown who might be on thin ice.

I mean personally I have more faith in Bickford than Webb pitching in MKE this year. Hintzen was drafted pretty high and as a reliever. Could be a number of things. With Small being 23 and seeing ZERO challenge at RK and A, while being age advanced and a mature developed pitcher in general, I'd be real tempted to throw him into some deep water and see how it goes in AA. He's older than Ashby and he's pitched only 21 innings. Skipping a level is not usual, but he's basically a 23 year old MiLB entering his 1st year. That's not usual either. He's certainly embarrassed the levels he was at last year. 63 outs, 36 of them K'd. I mean a 57% K rate.

He's not in MKE by 24 unless they get aggressive pretty soon. Peralta 22 Burnes 23 Woodruff 24. Heck Houser was 22 and Hader was 23. They don't screw around with these arms. They get them to the majors pretty quick. AA AAA with a late season cup of coffee? It really isn't out of the question if they start aggressive. It sounds REAL dumb, but if Peralta and Houser are in the rotation I HATE our pen. Rasmussen Small for the playoffs? It's not insane.
