2020 Spring Training Games

Eye Black
Awesome good stuff.

Peralta threw 2IP today. Would guess he was to throw 1IP game 1?

I'm guessing he got to start at 2 IP because he's still warmed up from winter ball, which is also why they made sure to get the other guys in earlier and let him wait an extra couple days for his debut.

I think pitch count is involved here as well. I didn't watch the game, but sounded like he was very effective and efficient. Maybe through an inning he was only at 8 or 9 pitches and they wanted him to get closer to 20.

They've got Holt playing SS again today. I thought with Urias out, Arcia was going to be pretty much handed that spot to start the season, but they may be taking a good look at Holt.

A Gyorko/Sogard (3B), Holt (SS) left side of the infield vs righties, and Gyorko (3B), Sogard (SS) vs lefties to start the year wouldn't look too bad.

I live in Arizona and was able to attend today.

My thoughts:

1. Arcia doesnt want to lose his job. Much different plate approach.

2. Freddy seems to have added a breaking pitch. Cubs hitters were waiving at it.

3. Rasmusson is filthy. If he stays healthy he will reach the bigs this year. Absolute gas. Meets the eye test body wise.

4. Corey Ray and David Freitas do not meet the eye test. Neither look comfortable at the plate.

Supplement to my earlier post:

1. Forgot to mention that Faria looked terrible against the Cubs. Every ball they hit was hard contact. Not fooling anybody. At this point he is a waste of a 40 man spot.

Also attended today versus the Reds, comments as follows:

1. Morrison has serious pop. The ball was not flying today and he was able to hit one out to a deeper part of the park.

2. Lauer is good. Has command of three pitches.

3. Ray Black had no fastball or offspeed command. With no options remaining I fear his time is limited.

Faria was already DFA'd, cleared waivers, and is in camp as a non-roster invitee. I think Black's spot in the pen is pretty much assured too.

Good to hear on Faria. I am not shocked the entire league passed on him on waivers.

On another note, I doubt Black is a sure thing. He looked really really bad.

A power pitcher having trouble with command a week or two into camp is nothing new, and probably not something to get real upset about. If we get to the last week of Spring Training games and Black still looks lost, that's the time to get concerned.
