PF, do you expect Funch to catch 60+ balls like he did once? Or 30-40 like he did his other 3 healthy seasons?

If he's the 3 WR, I think 30-40 is perfectly reasonable. Allison caught 34 last year as the 2/3. The issue is, Allison's 34 was a career high, and even then he didn't even come close to the yardage that Funchess reached in those 3 other seasons you note, as he had 100 less yards than Funchess's lowest season, with 11 more receptions.

Allison is a poor receiver. Funchess is better than poor. How much better is yet to be determined, but he will outproduce what Allison has done in Green Bay, of that I have no doubt.

If Allison had stayed healthy in 2018, he would've had much more. He had 20 in 5 games.

But we agree that Funch has the higher ceiling (physically he does compare with Lazard much better, but Lazard has better hands). He also has better potential to be in Rodger's dog-house on drops. Depending on the draft, I expect him to be #3 or 4 next year, catch ~35 passes... essentially Allison's role. He is the better WR, but not a drastic improvement. Hence my comparison.

I expect Funchess to take on some of the production of Graham and some of the (lack of) production of Alison. I would think 40-50 balls isn't out of the question to him. I think he could have 5+ TD's as well. I don't think he's a great receiver but I think in an offense with Rodgers, he could be productive.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Is Funchess much different than a James Jones type guy? Bigger target. Good on the sidelines which Rodgers loves. Both had issues with drops. Jones also had a few years in the 50's for his catch percentage - playing with much more accurate qbs. Would adding a James Jones type wr to this team be a help? I would say definitely

Funches' catch rate goes way up when he's on traditional slot routes instead of being asked to line up out wide. And he didn't drop a single pass last year when he was starting from the Slot, compared to a good number of them when he's lined up wide. Indianapolis figured that out with him but then he got hurt. Really it looks more like he should be an awesome slot receiver, but that he's simply never going to be that Davante Adams #1 receiver teams wanted him to be after he was drafted.

James Jones played at 6'1", 208 pounds. Funchess is 6'4", 225 pounds. Jones played tough, was strong and got the most out of his size, but they are definitely two very different types of receivers. Funchess was supposed to be more of a Plaxico Burress/Brandon Marshall-type.

Last year means nothing. He had 3 catches. But I'm curious where you got this info? How does your theory compare in 2018?

As to JJ, "good hands, with drop problems" - His early career was plagued by concentration issues, but he greatly improved that later on when he had his best seasons. His worst seasons where the ones that found him with reduced playing time often because of it.

As for signing Funch, I'm good with it. He fits the mold of one of my previous posts where we bring in a FA vet as part of the solution, then draft to cover - a 2-fold way to fix a problem. At worst, we have a player similar to Allison (who has been useful, just not last year), but with more upside to his game.
