Cutting the cord

I don't think YouTube TV is looking to get "rid" of those channels. These are normal negotiation tactics that pop up from time to time and I'm sure will be resolved by the deadline or shortly after. Great thing about streaming is the ability to jump from YouTube TV to Hulu or something else. Folks will stick with YouTube TV for a short time but if it gets to be longer they'll just move to a service that has what they want. YouTube TV has to know that a certain percentage of customers, once they move, will never bother to move back once their programming issue is resolved.

This is an interesting twist to these negotiations now. In the past, you had cable or a satellite carrier do this, you just sat without the channel and waited for them to resolve it. Now, there is a pretty clear ability for both the channel and the carrier to know exactly the value of their channel - people that leave to see that channel on another streaming service make it pretty obvious the value of that channel.

I could easily see this not getting resolved. The RSNs never got resolved. Disney has so much clout, and now they their own streaming service, so they're not going to budge

I think there's a big difference between Bally's Sports channel being removed and people being denied access to their local ABC affiliate. Big, huge, gargantuan difference. ESPN, while not quite as influential as it once was, is still a pretty big deal as well.

So, which steaming services actually have Bally Sports right now? Not in the future, or had it, but which services currently, as of today carry it?

Bally Sports is a deal breaker for me, and the biggest reason I have stuck with cable. (well, that and I don't want to play streaming service bingo every other month)

DirectTV Stream is the only option and you get the privilege of paying $85 plus tax every month for it.

Honestly, choosing between that and cable might be a horse apiece at that price.

The local NBC affiliate in the twin cities has been missing from Dish since the beginning of October. I don't see that one getting resolved soon.

i have sling and every single local station is off there except for FOX6. it happens.

Sling's business model when it comes to local stations is different and has been from the beginning. They're more focused on the cable networks, local network availability varies depending on the region you're in, basically only available in major metropolitan areas and only FOX and/or NBC. If it were something that Sling used to offer and then cut back that would be a different story.

only advantage is no contract and you don't need to worry about a box that has to be returned at some point. to me thats good enough.

I have no cable contract. I can drop at anytime. (spectrum)

I do have the boxes though. :(

That's my point. ESPN is Disney, so the opposite is true. They ate WAY more influential as they once were, which is why it may not be resolved.

With Air TV players you can pull in local stations on the same display as your sling and DVR on both now. The only significant issue I've had over the years with that combo is that I live in a urban TV reception pit, and I a few of my local stations I have some difficulty getting reception on reliably.

I will take the extra $15 a month.

Okay, I retract my last statement....I need ESPN for Kansas Basketball. Does ESPN+ let you watch all of ESPN...the the main channel and stuff? If so, then still a net win money wise.

no just the espn3 content

I checked into cable just for fun, once again, the intro price seems decent…until 3-4 boxes/plus DVR and then it is just LOL.

I wish there was a cheap streaming option for the local channels (Fox/ABC/CBS) and then I can easily mooch off someone for ESPN and FS Wisconsin.

Is this price hike from Disney to try and screw over YouTube, so they have to charge more? Which then will send more people over to Hulu Live TV? It seems to me that YouTube is kind of screwed on this one because of what Disney has control over. I have a feeling I’ll need to switch to Hulu but I don’t want to if that was their plan all along!

Are you in a poor spot for getting normal antenna reception for local channels? With the Air TV players you can grab antenna signal and send it with the rest of you Sling TV signal. For all the cabin folks I also just figured out that with the newest Air TV Anywhere. Since it converts the signal all the way to the internet you can literally set the Air TV Anywhere player in any location (like say WI) and get those local stations on a second Sling device (say MN). This works on the Sling AP if you download it on your phone for the second device as well.
