NFC Conference Championship: Packers @ 49ers Sunday, Jan 19th, 5:40PM

I'd like to see at least a 2nd devoted to the position, as it's a super deep WR draft.

Among the top 30 WR's in terms of receiving yards in 2019:

- 4 of the top 10 were taken after pick #60

- 11 of the top 20 were taken after pick #60

- 15 of the top 30 were taken after pick #60

There is no need to spend a 1st round pick on a WR when the data says that you can get good ones in the 2nd and 3rd round.

San Francisco didn't get to where they are by spending 1st round picks on WRs; they spent them on DL and OL.

Jeudy is worth mortgaging the draft for somebody, Ruggs is really good too and there’s others. I would spend a 1st or a 2nd in a heartbeat, we cannot go through another season of this. A good offense that can move the chains and put fear in the opposition will make our defense better, rather than praying to god they can play good enough for the offense to scrape some points together and eke out a W. Garoppolo may have had to throw the ball a bit if they were down or in a close game, which gives our guys a chance to make plays.

Sign a rangy MLB and some DL depth.

Did you think they would net gain 7 wins last offseason and be in the NFCCG game or did they have too many needs to achieve that?

Of course I thought they'd improve. It would have been hard not to. They weren't really a 6-9-1 bad roster the year before. 7 wins is a great improvement, but it's a relative one. Every team is a few good or bad bounces between 6-10 or 10-6. Usually those good bounces won't get you to 13-3, but this was an unusual year.

The defense definitely improved significantly, but they did have glaring and exploitative flaws that reared their ugly head on Sunday. I'm not sure if their second half improvement was legitimate or more the result of a string of very bad offenses with one or two exceptions. I'm not sure Pettine is the right guy moving forward or not. He looked massively outcoached on Sunday.

The offense has been the exact same inconsistent outfit since the 2015 season (with the exception of the run the table stretch in 2016). Long gone are the days of them imposing their will on anyone. I don't know if it's just a result of neglect from having to invest so much in the defense, but if they're going to have time left they need immediate and significant additions to the offense.

They need additions to the offense but Rodgers was an impediment at times this year. Rodgers really needs to buy in to what they are doing. I think he's trying, but old habits die hard. I don't believe for a second that any of his physical skills are in decline so much that he can't be a SB QB. But there are two things specifically he needs to start to come to grips with:

1. He needs to be more willing to take what's there. The 6-second drops are not helping the pace of the offense. When your WRs are running around 3x longer than they need to be per play, it takes that much more gas out of them to sustain a drive. Especially when they aren't particularly great to begin with. None of them will ever say this, but this has to be getting frustrating for them.

2. He's getting older and needs to get back to fundamentally sound mechanics. He's always thrown the ball with kind of weird footwork, but I'm not sure he's amazing enough anymore to get away with so many back-foot throws.

With the running game where it was this year, their offense should have been a lot better even with mediocre WRs. It's strange that they were one of the most efficient first down offenses and one of the worst on third down.
