the world series has concluded. the brewers have five days to exercise gyorko's option.

I know that the team is probably cutting payroll, but exercising this option seems like a no-brainer to me. I suppose it depends on how they feel the free agent market is going to play out, though. If they feel teams are going to be super stingy, perhaps they can step in and get a few guys signed to to value deals.

Eric Thames option seemed like a no brainier too but here we are. I'm not going to assume that Stearns will decide anything until he does it. Gyorko had a nice little season for us, but like you said and others have said teams are going to cut payroll, and if someone else can fill that void for us, Stearns will do it. So I'm going to take a wait and see approach. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to bring the guy back for four and a half million, but at the same time I won't be shocked if that option isn't exercised.

Welp, I am surprised. Perhaps I shouldn't be, though. Hopefully they still find a way to bring him back.

Watch them really screw with us and pick up Sogard's option now LOL

Lol...it is a bit troubling that the Sogard option decision is the one taking the longest.

I am picturing David in his office trying to complete the paperwork to decline it and Counsell tackling him and wrestling away the pen.

I would guess based on the obvious leaguewide spending constraints this offseason that the discussed $5-$6M plus buyout swan song for Braun is absolutely not happening.

I can’t see the Brewers offering Knebel arbitration either at this point. I would be pretty surprised.

On one hand, I'm a little surprised at them declining Gyorko's option. On the other hand, I'm scared to see what they're going to do at infield corners for 2021.

To be honest, I am shocked they decilned his option. How can they possibly be able to sign a better guy at that money?

Man, I have a feeling that 2020 is going to look like an all star line-up compared to what might be happening in 2021.

Yikes.

I think they’ll bank that there will be a lot of discounted players out there this year due to teams cutting back. I like the idea of giving us a chance to maybe get some better players on the cheap.

Well I guess we're going to see how good of a GM Stearns can be putting together a roster with table scraps. It's going to be a very interesting offseason I think. He tried the "plug the holes with mid-salary level vets" approach, which didn't really work. I wonder what the approach will be this year?

Remember, Attanasio recently cashed out on a huge chunk of his investment firm, so he has a lot of capital to invest somewhere.

I don't think we'll see payroll increase, or any huge contracts, but I guess you never know.
