White Sox sign Steve Chisek - 1 year/$6.75M

Another reliever off the board. Chisek gets 1 year/$6M with an option for a $6.75M salary in 2021. The option can be bought out for $750,000.

Word is that Chisek wanted to play in Boston (he is from the area), but the Red Sox have not been in a spending mood of late.

I hate this. I'd have paid that. He was a guy I really wanted. It's a touch higher than I wanted but it's right at the edge. I'd have bit the bullet on that one.

Our pen is already Knebel not coming back to dominance away from being very suspect. Consider me in the minority if you wish but I don't care about the Cubs. I care about the Brewers. If the Brewers take care of the Brewers they'll take care of the Cubs.

A sub 3 ERA SU man would have been real nice. We missed Jeffress being that guy QUITE A BIT last year.

With his throwing style, he's quite a bit worse against lefties than righties. I wonder if he's going to be someone who's hurt by the "three batter minimum" rule.

70 appearances in 2019. 52 1 ip for more. He also faced a very standard 60/40 split R to L in 2019. Career neither side is over 700 ops and the LHB have a considerably higher babip. (avg .030 higher, babip .055 higher) Guys been south of 3 ERA 4 years in a row and 7 of 9.

THis is about the Brewers by proxy. The Cubs will not be able to replace Chisek with a reliever as effective. It hurts the Cubs' chances of winning the division, which in turn helps the Brewers chances.

You are correct that signing a guy like Chisek would likely have helped the Brewers bullpen substantially. But it didn't happen, so the next best thing is the team's chief rival losing him to an AL team.

They couldn't afford Claudio. They were never getting him back. I really can't stand any fan base that gets rival focused. It's aiming low. Brewers can be better than the Cubs and still lose the division or win the division with no chance of contending for the WS. Neither of those outcomes have a silver lining to me. You win or you lose. At least we were better than the Cubs is the type of thing you lean on when your team is hopeless.

There was a year GB lost to Chicago twice like that. 2007 GB was 13-3 and the Bears were 7-9. There's no saving grace in that. 7-9 is garbage no matter how you do it.

I could care less what the Cubs are doing or not doing either. The cardinals are a much more consistent threat year in and year out for ages.

To each their own. I'm happy that a good reliever is no longer a Cub.

So for the White Sox does this take them more out of a Hader Trade or put them more likely to make a trade for Hader? They have seriously upgraded that you could say they are a piece or two away from serious aspirations. But then again maybe Chisek is all the RP that the Sox think they need til a trade deadline need.
