What's bugging you? (2020)

hawing
Pick and Save has some really great deals on pizza depending on the coupon offer that week. I've got 5 Digornos in my freezer that were 2.99 each, another week I got 5 screaming sicilian for the same price. I know I've gotten Red Baron under 3 bucks a pie.

Our Pick n Save went by the wayside about...20 years ago. Ha.

Rumor is it got completely emptied only a few years ago... some extremely disgusting leftover food in there.

Wonder if Jack's quality went south after Kraft sold them off to Nestle? I dunno. Tastes the same to me as it always has. Accept no substitutes.

Also, someone mentioned Woodman's....the one in Kenosha has the biggest frozen pizza selection in the world. I don't know if this is really true but it wouldn't surprise me.

Jack's regular pizzas are not great. However, Jack's rising crust are still my favorite when I want a thicker crust, better than DiGiorno. When I want something thinner, Home Run Inn or Emil's.

West Evergreen drive in Appleton is East of East Evergreen drive. I thought it was because that's where Appleton turned into Little Chute. Yet I was at a place today on West Evergreen drive that was still an Appleton address that's East of East Evergreen Dr.

Kids screaming and crying on a plane don't bother me but the tablet, phone, or any other device that someone is listening to without headphones makes me want to throw things.

Sometimes kids have to fly and they can't be expected to act like adults. I was on a flight to Europe with a baby who cried the entire trip. The mother seemed, for lack of a better word, ashamed by it. I was across the isle from her, when we made eye contact I always smiled to reassure her I sympathized with her. Some people gave her dirty looks but I felt kids crying is something parents can't always prevent so why make them feel worse?

I don't have the same sympathy for parents who let kids listen to movies or music without headphones.

Why people think they are entitled to a quiet child-less flight is amazing to me. You are on public transport. It's a flying bus. It's families traveling for work, adoptions, military, and yes vacation. People should expect noise and have noise-cancelling headphones if it bothers them.

Crying babies are one thing. Children being loud and obnoxious, kicking and banging on the seat in front of them while their blissfully laissez-faire parent tunes it out on their headphones instead of being a parent and teaching their child how to behave in public, and more importantly, how NOT to behave in public....that is quite another thing.

I agree on Lotza Motza, they are awesome and by far my favorite. I also like Home Run in. These are the only frozen pizzas that I look forward to eating.

My kids will only eat cheese pizza. This is great for me because I move all the sausage and/or pepperoni to one side before cooking and I get a meat lovers. It doesn’t get any better than that! My, what has having 4 kids done to me.....

My wife's favorite is Orv's plain cheese. She says she loves the "powder" on the bottom of the crust. I don't even want to know what that stuff, probably some kind of chemical that makes it cheap enough to sell for $2 each.

Frozen pizza - I love Lottza a Heggie's for the more expensive ones. Not sure if Heggie's is in WI or just MN. As for cheap ones, the costco pepperoni is really good in my opinion. I think all brands that have been around for a long time go through changes that make their food different. Whether through being acquired by another company, or trying to keep costs down, they change and usually get worse. I think Jack's is still ok but definitely not as good as it used to be.

I had a Jacks pizza today for lunch. The entire cooking time it was about as crispy as a wet towel. Upon exit from the pizza oven it stiffened up, but not exactly crispy. It was, however, so chewy my jaw was borderline sore by the time I was done. I could tell the second I took it out of the wrapper that it was going to be gross. It was super thin compared to the typical Jacks and there were bare spots on it with no cheese/sauce.

l had one today for lunch. Outside crust was crisp, middle crust soft, just like I like it, used the Pizza setting on my toaster oven, 425 for about 13 minutes. A couple of handfuls of Roundy's gourmet mixed cheddar ($2.50/bag, lasts 3-4 pizzas) added on and I thought it was great, well worth the net cost of ~$4 (they are usually 3/$10 at Mariano's, plus the extra cheese).

Of note, I only buy the half/half pepperoni/cheese. I can't speak for other varieties.

I’d probably consider the same if the crust wasn’t so terrible now (in my opinion). I’m honestly thinking I will have to switch to something else. I’d rather eat a Roma at this point. I like the crust to be cracker like...doesn’t have to be rock hard, but I like it crispy through to some extent. Jacks seems so chewy now.

Only one frozen pizza brand to me...Tombstone. I always loved the hamburger pizza as a kid. It was my go to on Friday or Saturday nights when I’d be home alone when parents would go out with friends. Now that would be a crime...leaving a 9-12 year old alone. But for me, pizza, video games, and ESPN monster truck rallies or TBS/TNT constantly showing Blues Brothers, Stripes, Fletch, Real Men, etc....those were great times

I’ve mentioned this in other threads, but it’s worth repeating: Pick N’ Save is a much better grocery store under Kroger. My wife and I had given up on our local Copps, but decided to give it another shot when it was re-branded as a Pick N’ Save following Kroger’s acquisition of Roundy’s. Give it a try.

I stopped eating tombstone years ago when it appeared they also made a change that I didn't like. Can't quite remember what it was, it was quite a while ago.

I was never a huge tombstone guy, but did like them for a change on occasion.

I had a brand a few months ago that I thought was really good. I think it was called ZA or something like that?

I actually like Aldi's brand frozen pizza. Cheap, filling, but have to be careful of any meat pizzas because it then gets a bit greasy.

What is bugging me is that a section of my fence blew down in last nights storm. Not a huge deal, but I have to deal with my 2 puppers as well as my neighbor's 2 dogs.

The Sourdough bread I make is a from a starter my wife started 25 years ago. I have managed to keep in alive since her passing 6 months ago. If fact I started the process to make two loaves this morning. I fed it in the AM, 10 hours later I will feed it again. Tomorrow I feed it again in the morning. 6-8 hours later I will mix the final dough cover it and return it to the fridge. The next morning I will remove it from the fridge and let it come to room temperature add the salt and knead for 10 minutes. divide it into balls let rest for 15 minutes. Form the two balls into loaves, place in greased loaf pans. Poke the top of the loaves generously with a dinner fork. Let rise until doubled in size. Bake in a 450° preheated over for 10 minutes and then lower the temperature to 350° for 35 more minutes. Always turns out great.

That sounds so good. And I'm sorry about your wife.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Thanks, Hawing!!! I've been a "lurker" since pretty much the beginning.

I greatly appreciate what you and the other Administrators do. This is the best Brewer Fan site ever.

The bread turned out really, really good.

I am blessed that I have kept Marcia's starter active, and just as good.

I agree on Lotza Motza, they are awesome and by far my favorite.

Looked for them at Mariano's and I think I found them, but... they were regular price ~$9 on sale for $6.50. Does that sound right? If so, I can't put them in the same category as Jack's.

They did have Geno's East thin crust 12" pizzas on sale for $3.50 each so I went for a pepperoni. I'd be surprised if, for about the same price as Jack's, they aren't better, but I have had no issues with Jack's other than having to add a handful or two of cheese to it.

Yah, they are expensive. At the same time a Lotza Motza is a solid 3x heavier though. So on sale they can be a decent deal if you end up splitting it, when you usually wouldn't OR you get two meals out of it, instead of the normal one.

WOA!

$9 regular price? That is way too much. $6.50 is too much as well, even on sale. I usually get them for $5 on sale, but the last one was 5 for $20, so $4 each was a steal of a deal!

If you ever find them for that price, stock up!
