What's bugging you? (2020)

People who don’t sweep up grass clippings from the curb after they’re done mowing their lawns. This is especially problematic with riding mowers. It looks bad, it smells bad, and it can plug up our sewer drains.

They shouldn’t even have to sweep. Use your brain and mow the correct direction.

I don't have a curb, so when I'm done mowing, I just run the mower over the road and blow the clippings back on my yard. Same on my driveway.

Trying to get a daily pass to drive a personal vehicle in Denali National Park. They release the passes 2 weeks prior to the date at 10 am. I keep trying to get one, am logged in and refresh my browser continually until the moment the passes are released. But still when I click it I’m too late and they’re all gone instantaneously. I’m becoming suspicious of whether there’s some kind of inside track some certain people have in order to secure the passes before proles like me get their chance.

Just got a different phone. When I pick it up it recognizes finger-swipes just fine. When it's lying on the bed it doesn't recognize them at all. Sat on a table is fine, too. I haven't done more experimentation yet, but so far it's just the bed where it doesn't work. It's weird and really frustrating.

So I've been driving for Doordash for a bit and I've come across alot of questionable things. It happens everywhere so not bugged about that. There is a particular chicken restaurant that will remain nameless but likes to eat spinach and defeat Bluto. They are notoriously slow. Lots of customers are upset, asking for refunds etc. Again, it happens.

Today, they offered a chicken sandwich for completing a survey. Great, I thought. I can voice my opinion and grab a quick bite. Problem was, they were only giving the free sandwich if THEY completed the survey on my phone. That does not fly with me. I gave an excuse about having a phobia about other people touching my phone (partially true with Covid going on) and left.

Your ratings and reviews are abysmal. You're not going to sell and scam a good review out of "me".

Do you make decent money doing doordash?

About 20 bucks an hour minus gas working Racine County

Is wear and tear on your vehicle figured in?

Sort of? I make closer to 22 an hour and just say that anything over 20 per goes towards wear and tear. I have a pretty extensive spreadsheet with everything on it.

Resurrecting an older thread...

Working from home with windows open. Neighbor leaves their dog outside that is whining to come back into the house. Windows get closed during conference calls...

Well I could deal with a whining dog on a conference call but one of my co-workers in India has a bird that starts chirping outside his house whenever we have a conference call and it always starts chirping and squawking when he starts to talk. It is a cuckoo bird and that thing is loud and annoying. At least it wakes me up on my early morning (2am) conference call.

First two days of high school golf practice were 114º and 109º. Strangely, everyone thought today was comfortable, given that we had cloud-cover. In fairness, it felt better than the 88-92º days I felt in Wisco in late July.

US Bank has by far the worst service I have ever encountered. They charged me an extra lease payment after I turned in my truck. I called to get a refund and they sent me a check. As I deposited it, they did a stop payment on it. After calling 5 times and talking to multiple departments, I found out the reason why.

Basically, the dealership I took the truck back to bought it and either US Bank or the dealership messed up the paperwork. They applied my extra lease payment to the purchase price of the truck. US Bank said I needed to get the money from the dealership which I thought was absurd. After many more phone calls and getting the run around, I disputed the withdrawal with my bank. I finally get the money returned.

Within two days I get a letter from US Bank saying I owe them the money and to call their dispute department if it is an error. I call them and the person who could make that call was on vacation so it may take a week to hear back. Well that was 13 days ago. My girlfriend is an attorney and has been following this pretty much the whole time. I don't really want to get her involved to sue them which might not get me anywhere either.

Does it pay to file a complaint against US Bank? Should I wait for it to go to collections and dispute it there? I have excellent credit and take pride in that fact. I'm not super comfortable taking a hit on my credit for all of this garbage.

I watched the live stream on Facebook of the shooting in Kenosha last night. Props to the Media guy for stopping being a journalist and helped in the triage but Holey Smokes, Batman. That footage gave me nightmares last night.

For years my name has been on the National Hurricane Center's list of possible names for the Atlantic storm season.

These last few days, I've learned how quickly my stance on it can move from "hm, Tropical Storm Laura, interesting novelty" to "my name is a trending hashtag and all over the news and it's no longer funny." :(

Yep...not a good situation although at least it is going to make landfall in a relatively unpopulated area. They will certainly retire the name Laura so you'll be off the list after this year!

Not to make light of your situation.

I got half way through your post and thought "there's no Hurricane Hawing'

:laughing Awww, stalton, thanks. I haven't laughed much this week, until I read that.

And our weatherman comes through with the underlying weather truth. This should be the last Hurricane Laura, at least.

It is weird, the number of double takes I've done the last few days, because I don't usually hear my name on TV or radio.

Bugs. Literally.

These small bugs have been accumulating on the sill of my bathroom glass block window over the last two weeks or so. They look like a tiny ant with wings and a long antennae and stinger-type rear antennae. When I try to squash them they don't squash easily.

I think they are winged ants, but I'm concerned because I'm on the 4th floor and I don't know where they are coming in from. Last year I had put silicone sealant between the glass block window and the drywall, but there was one small hole that I put some silicone in yesterday but two more showed up just now.

What are these things and should I be concerned?

I know news and journalism has pretty much been non-existent for quite awhile but why is it now considered "news" to report on what late night comedians are saying on their shows? When I check my Apple news in the morning it's full of "Colbert skewers (insert name of politician)" and other headlines like that. Today even my local newspaper app had a similar story. So now the "real" news people have to get their "news" from the "fake" news people.

So I jut had this conversation at work.

Lady- Can I have a balloon for my kid's birthday.

Me- Sure what kind.

Lady- Just a regular rubber balloon

Me- Sure its a dollar.

Lady- Can't I have just one balloon?

Me (somewhat confused) Sure one balloon is one dollar and I'll blow it up for you.

Lady- I don't have any money on me.

Me- No problem we take credit cards and there's no minimum.

Lady- Can't you just give me a balloon? It's my kids birthday.

Me- Sure you give me one dollar and I give you one balloon.

Lady- It's just a balloon can't you just give it to me?

Me (now getting a little annoyed) No we do this for a living not for fun.

Lady- Oh like that one dollar is going to matter.

Me- I don't care it cost everyone one dollar for one balloon. We are not a charity.

Lady- Well I'll never come to this (curse word) place again.

Great way to end my day.

So, she walked into your place, expects something for free, when you won't give it to her, she threatens to never come back? lol That is truly hilarious. You can't make that kind of stuff up.

People who are used to getting hand-outs just think it should be that way all the time, from everyone...

I think she may have started her Labor day weekend a little early. She wasn't slurring her words but usually when they act like that it's alcohol related. Usually you can smell it on them but we have a pretty elaborate setup due to covid so no way to know for sure.
