Probably an easy one to overlook as a fan with a backup QB and a bad team BUT weird things always happen in Detroit both good and bad so need to handle. LaFleur had an encouraging quote this week saying (paraphrasing) "This is a playoff game for us, if we win we get a week off and we want that".

Obvious thing to say, but nonetheless reassuring that the point is being driven home that if they take care of business on Sunday they get a nice break to rest up so don't mess it up :)

I can remember the Packers losing twice in week 17 when winning would have gotten them a bye, against the Jets in the Sherman era and a few years ago against the Vikings. In both cases I think the winning team was playing for a playoff birth. It would be a way bigger stunner if the Pack blew this one, Lion players are making offseason plans and I doubt affecting playoff seeding is all that much motivation for them. Just get ahead early and they will lay down.

Yeah, this should be a layup, but the fact this was a two practice week makes me nervous a bit. IDK what the Lions practice schedule looked like this week but if they indeed had a normal week of practice, that would give me cause to pause. I sure hope MLF knew what he was doing.

It's an NFL opponent and as such should always be taken seriously. Just ask the Seahawks. This isn't like college football where one side can just athletically be a collasol overmatch for one side. As we saw against the Chargers, it only takes one bad day to look vastly overmatched by a normally inferior opponent in this league.

The Packers should consider this to be a playoff type game for all intents and purposes because a victory here would carry them to the divisional round just like a victory in the wild card round would. Fortunately I think they will take the Lions seriously.

I know these are very different teams than last year, but don't forget the Lions absolutely handed us our lunch in Week 17 just one year ago. If anything, I hope we're motivated by that.

I like that Lafluer said that. This is a far better playoff matchup and reward than what any L provides. Minnesota again? Or SF/Sea?

Also what do the Lions lose putting up a W? They must be around top 3 or 5 for the draft.

I think the Lions are at pick 3 and can move down as far as 5 with a win and possibly up to 2 with a loss. Those are pretty valuable positions up that high, you know there are guys in the front office who don't want to win this game. But the head coach will be trying for the win if only because he would want another eliminated team giving it's all if his team needed the upset to get in the playoffs. Still, it's tough to get the players to show up on Week 17, no one wants to get hurt and they are all thinking about going home or somewhere on Monday. Stafford, Marvin Jones, and Hockenson all on IR, I don't know enough about their D to say what is left there. Seems like the Packers would have to have like 4 turnovers for this to be a close game.

News is out that Marvin Jones's infant son died. Tragic.

Just awful. Sounds like he may have been sick for awhile judging by the Instagram post? Won't speculate being that. It wasn't long ago that I was a parent of a newborn and although he's older toddler aged now, I remember waking up during the first year of his life and frequently checking just to make sure he was breathing because SIDS was such a terrifying concept to me. Losing an infant is every parent's worst nightmare and condolences to Marvin and his family.
