2020 Lineup

MVP2110

My lineup:

Cain-CF

Yelich-LF

Braun/Garcia- RF

Hiura-2B

Smoak-1B

Narvaez-C

Holt/Jerkstore-3B

Urias/Sogard-SS

P

Although to be 100% honest, I am fine with moving this around in most ways except I believe Yelich should hit 2nd. I also think we are going to see more Sogard at SS than what I hear people talking about. I feel pretty darn confident that Urias will point left handed pitching.

As stated in another thread.

1st batter OBP in 2018 was 357

1st batter OBP in 2019 was 324

That needs to be fixed even if it means putting Holt and Sogard as a lead off platoon. Or Holt/Cain platoon. This team can't let Cain sit in the 1 hole if he's sub 350 OBP vs that days split.

I am in agreement on leadoff. I'd probably go something like this now that we have Holt

Vs RHP

3b Holt

LF Yelich

2b Hiura

C Narvaez

RF Garcia

1B Smoak

CF Cain

P

SS Sogard(until Urias is back)

Vs LHP

CF Cain

LF Yelich

2B Hiura

RF Garcia

1B Braun

3B Gyorko

C Pina

P

SS Urias

Once Urias is back I really like him in the 9 hole setting up Yelich & Hiura

IF Cain regains his OBP ability, I like him leading off against either RP or LP.

Against RHP

CF Cain

3B Holt

LF Yelich

1B Braun (he'll get the bulk of the ABs at 1B)/Smoak

2B Huira

C Narvaez

RF Garcia

SS Sogard/Urias

P

Against LHP

CF Cain

2B Huira

LF Yelich

1B Braun

RF Garcia

3B Gyorko

C Pina

SS Urias

For opening day assuming they’re facing Hendricks or Darvish I would like to see something along the lines of the following...

1) Cain ® - CF

2) Yelich (L) - LF

3) Narvaez (L) - C

4) Hiura ® - 2B

5) Smoak (S) - 1B

6) Garcia ® - RF

7) Sogard (L) - SS

8) Woodruff (L) - P

9) Holt (L) - 3B

There are a lot of variations of the above lineup I could be happy with. I originally figured Narvaez would hit 6th or lower in the Brewers lineups versus RHPs, but his career .361 OBP makes him a good candidate to hit just ahead of the power bats of Hiura, Smoak, and Garcia.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

I just can't imagine they don't have Braun starting on opening day

I wasn’t attempting to predict the actual opening day lineup, just stating what I would prefer to see. That being said, you could simply replace Garcia with Braun and I wouldn’t object.

Im not a fan of these pitcher 8th lineups. Remember the rule change that a RP has to face 3 batters. Keep it as late in order as possible.

Id guess CC keeps a majority R/L batter mix. Yelich 2 Hiura 3rd. Cain leadoff when platoon favor. After that its an interchangeable 4-7. SS 8th.

I’m not saying Keston will be getting scheduled days off but if there is a double header I could see him sitting out the game if Anderson is pitching. Again not that it will be every 5th game, but just something Counsell will have to consider when figuring out lineups.

ok, doubleheaders? how many of those will we play in 2020?

It seems like you are backtracking a bit here...

I’m not backtracking just clarifying my original point since I it was fairly broad. And doubleheader was more of an example than the end all be all. Doubleheaders, night/afternoon games, longer road trips, etc... Basically anytime when the turnaround is minimal and players might benefit from a little time off. I believe Keston will be our second best offensive producer in 2020 so I’m not looking to bench him because he’s a poor defender.

The bat will play. It just might not always play nine innings if we have a lead late in games.

Holt started at shortstop today...

Hmmm.... let me try something here...

GOT IT!

ss: Holt

cf: Cain

lf: Yelich

2b: Hiura

c: Narvaez

3b: Braun

1b: Smoak

rf: Garcia

No offensive holes in the Brewers lineup.

I always wonder if you simply forget to put stuff like this in blue...

Hmmm...

Maybe 10% sarcasm...

Honestly, though... maybe this would work better:

ss: Holt

2b: Hiura

lf: Yelich

rf: Garcia

c: Narvaez

1b: Smoak

3b: Braun

cf: Cain

That's maybe 5%... not enough for the blue. Blue would require at least 50% sarcasm.

This... as a bat-first lineup... could work.

Clancy, I love that you stick to your convictions, but by now even you have to know that Braun is never going to play 3B at the MLB level again.

So in other words, the Brewers are gambling that a 3B platoon of Brockstar/Jerkstore will be the key to their 2020 season.

This is wonderful.

Last year our 3B posted a 73wRC+ & 0.1 WAR.

ZIPS projects Brock for a 95 OPS+ & Jedd for a 98 OPS+ so they shouldn't have much problem topping last year's results.

That's pretty negative. They are "gambling" that the 26 men they put on the field for the opening day roster, plus the depth they have in the minors will keep them in the race until they decide at the trade deadline if they should invest more capital for a mid-season upgrade somewhere.

But yes, the third base platoon is part of the overall plan. I'd love to have the resources to buy a star at every position, but I think that the platoon mixes they've brought together should give us a fairly solid line-up top-to-bottom whether we're facing a lefty or a righty.

I think at worst, they will have average production offensively at every position on the field.

The thing is... if I can churn out a lot of those average production guys or even above-average production players, it becomes easier to keep the genuine superstars.

An little unconventional look at a possible lineup

vs RHP

Cain - CF

Holt - 3B

Yelich -LF

Hiura - 2B

Narvaez - C

Garcia - RF

Smoak - 1B

Sogard - SS

vs LHP

Cain - CF

Braun -1B

Yelich - LF

Hiura - 2B

Garcia - RF

Gyorko - 3B

Pina - C

Arcia - SS

I think Braun (35%) and Holt (34.5%) ability to put the ball in play on a regular basis up the middle and solid OBP make for great 2-hitters. Yelich/Hiura have more opportunities to drive in runs in the 3/4 spot.

With the DH in the NL being part of the owners' 2020 proposal, there will be an opportunity for Yelich, Cain, Garcia, and Braun to all be in the lineup.

Stearns does it again!

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.
