The fact that they lost by a point and were negative 3 in TO differential is just a gut punch. The dropped punt was not helpful either but sort of negated by the UW KO return for a TD.

FWIW, Terry McAulay confirms that shouldn't have been OPI. Which makes me feel so much better....

yeah and there's that.

That ref basically let a ticky tack foul determine the game.

There's admittedly ZERO certainty that Wisconsin even drives into Oregon territory to make an attempt, and there's even less certainty that they make the FG, but to let a garbage, poor interpretation of a subjective rule in a key moment of the game rob them of any opportunity is just wrong.

I'll even BUY that call if Davis is the eventual receiver, but he pushed a guy who had initiated contact with him, who was also a defender that had zero effect on Ferguson's catching of the ball. It's just bad.

I'm hoping coan is entering the transfer portal this spring

Why?

He was far from the problem today. He threw an INT, but it was because the defender hit him in the face mask on his pass which should have been a penalty. He didn't fumble the punt that was returned for a TD, he didn't fumble a carry in his own territory, and he's not the one who slipped running an out route that would have been an easy completion for a first down.

He's executing the plays that were called. When there are 8-9 guys in the box, the opening is on the quick slants.

And if Mertz gets hurt, it would be nice to have a good backup.

Considering that they had kept their flags in their pockets the whole game (looking at the scuffles, of which Oregon started them all, and no unsportsmanlike conduct penalties were called against Oregon), it was an awful time to finally decide to pull the flag out on a borderline penalty.

No Taylor (most likely) next season means our passing game will have to improve. I don't think Coan is the guy to do that but he had a fine season for what they asked him to do. It was crappy to see him crumble against Illinois and in this game when pressured. He's going to see a lot more pressured situations next year because they will need to throw the ball better to open up the run game.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I’m more so laughing at #21 playing 10 yards off the ball. At least it ended on more stupid football by the Badgers. What a garbage game.

Felt like I was watching Bret Bielema coach the defense again. Not only was he playing way off but after he caught it he backed up!

If Cephus leaves, they aren't going to have much in the way of receivers either. Next year's team will be led by the defense I think.

As an aside, what a horrible way for Anthony Lotti to end his career. Kid looked utterly defeated on the sideline.

As a punter you probably don't have the expectation that you'll leave the field after a game thinking, "I cost my team the game."

Not that I'm saying he did. But that's probably what he's thinking.

Two games in a row too. Just awful.

This is all I'm saying. That flag (that shouldn't have been thrown) took away any possibility Wisconsin had of doing anything meaningful the rest of the game. It didn't decide the game, but it turned it into a 57 minute game, essentially. No, Wisconsin wasn't assured that they would score, but they were robbed of an opportunity to try.

Fumbling a punt deep in your own territory early in the 3rd quarter while leading in back to back games in the Big Ten Championship game against the #3 team in the country and in the Rose Bowl against the #6 team in the country. I don't know how he can go back to campus.

The thought that honestly went through my mind was, check his and his family member's bank accounts. Wouldn't be the first time in the Rose Bowl. I heard from a reliable source it was the Iowa-Washington Rose Bowl in the early 90's that the Iowa punter was paid off, and he basically did the same thing in that game. My source heard it before the game too - was told to bet the house on Washington.

Check the O-line then too, because as others have said, that punt was going to get blocked. He still should have held the ball. Oregon gets it at the spot instead of where he dropped it, but that was a jailbreak on that play. That's not all on Lotti.

The defender either has to go for the block or go for the man and risk getting a roughing the kicker penalty. If Lotti gets it off, no matter how bad, and the defender hits him it's a penalty. I think the chances of Lotti getting it off and getting roughed are the same as it getting blocked.

Just got home after watching that game in the bar, I wasn't really all that invested going in but man losing like that is a real punch in the gut. Before the Davis fumble we were really getting in the celebrating mode, no shock they scored on the next play at all. Yeah I see Lotti has been brought up but we also missed a FG again. I used to think having good kickers was something the Badgers could get an edge on but I am sure the blue blood programs get all the studs there now as well.

This brings up a good point. Why was Larsh kicking again? Anyone have any info there?

Can any Wisconsin sports team that doesn't choke in the biggest game of the year please step up one of these years? Anyone?

Women's hockey.

True that they won the title last season. However, never should have lost the title game three years ago and the semis loss two years was unexpected.

Yesterday I was flying out of O’Hare back up here and was somewhat envious of the Badger fans I saw heading for LAX.

But I was at Pasadena for the loss to TCU and man, I was so pissed off about that one. There were local tv crews at the luggage carousel in Madison wanting a word when we got back and waved them off. Anything I would have had to say about that game would’ve been unfit for television.

This was just as bad. I’m so glad I opted against wasting my money to go watch them take a dump in the bed this time. What a frustrating loss.
