If you take away his unwise Brett Anderson signing, David is sporting at fine 2.86 GPA so far.

David has been hard at work for the past 3 plus weeks.

Please enjoy your Holidays.

1-5M for a guy who threw 176 innings last year and wasn't a total disaster is a good deal, and if he blows up, it isn't a crippling amount to cut.

Anderson could collect Cy Young votes next year and some here will think it was a bad signing because he doesn't throw hard enough or strike guys out.

It’s the baseball analysis equivalent of “bro do you even lift?”

There is more than one route to the top of a mountain.

The F minus for Brett Anderson is obviously a joke. With that being said, I really really dislike the signing because I stronger dislike the player. Also, I find it funny how every terrible SP signed during Stearns tenure going forward will just be assumed to be the next Wade Miley and is thus not allowed to be questioned. lol

Garcia is a C because we paid more than market price for him and I also strongly dislike him.

If anyone dislikes my arbitrary grades, go ahead and post your own.

It would make for some entertaining reading for certain, which was the purpose of my post BTW.

Would Jordan Lyles or Pomeranz be better for you?

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

No, it's the worst fad in all of sports writing. It's not interesting, its quick and arbitrary.

Wow I check at any new new and we signed another player. How many days in a row is this? 4? Hate the price we paid. This should be an incentive laden contract up to 4.5mil. At 1.5 starting off. His track record says it all. He's a 1War player. Oh he's Lefty. Well that makes him the plays most side on a platoon lineup. Too much playing time for my liking. There are other FAs to target out there still and 4.5mil now is 4.5mil less you will offer towards them. Look at it like this. The news for Hader being a Super 2 and a 4.6mil 1st year Arb suggestion brought immediate rumors that Stearns would listen to trade offers for him. Sogard just got 4.5 for whatever value you think he may bring. Compared to the best value you can possibly get for a RP. And theres no way Sogard is up for 500PAs or more of playing time this year. So he's essentially a RP value, far from a good one. With Urias this signing or type of player that is of the Sogard mold will likely be available when the guy doesn't make the team out of Spring Training. It could have waited.

Well Anderson doesn't qualify as Wade Miley. They got Wade Miley for nothing. Chacin and Gio were the two they paid around the range of Anderson. If he's between that, he's well worth the 7 mil MKE'll end up paying in 2020.

I want the Brewers to sign another middle infielder for no other reason than to rattle the cages of brewerfan.net. Heck, maybe another OF too.

Can we sign Brock Holt and Neil Walker so CC can draw names out of a hat each day to see which guys will be in the starting lineup?

It's really too bad that the Cubs would never trade Bryant to the Brewers.

That's just mean - we did let them sign Hernan!

I just wanted to say "thank you" for this, it gave me a good chuckle that I needed... :)

I've stopped reading 90% of the posts on the site that I used to read, turned off by the whining, sniping etc... this used to be the place to come for informed, civil discussion. It's nice to see someone keep a good sense of humour through all of that.

"Don't force him to choose between Chris Smalling and Phil Jones. It's like asking someone to choose between which STD to contract!"

You put Healy (.237/.289 career OBP under .300) as a B? Healy was a fill in for AAA type signing. A low C or D at best. Anderson to a minimal $5M contract and you have that as an F-....On what basis do you make your grades? Obviously not on MLB production.

Drew Pomeranz got like $32 million for a good month, so I thought $4 million was actually quite cheap for a guy who had an excellent 2019 and at worst is a glove-first utility guy.

I think every list I've seen had Sogard as a top 50 free agent.

But I don't like revisionist adds. His 2019 doesn't mean much to me. He has a long track record of not being 2019 and he only has 3 years over 90 OPS+. 250/320/660 blah and a career OPS+ 82. He's good at 2b 3b and the rest of his utility summed up as not being bad at other spots. It's not like I've been a Perez advocate either. Useful and 4.5 mil is a different level in MKE.

Arcia has to be on the move.

I'm so sick of this SS turnstile we have going on. Trade Escobar before his prime. Trade Segura before his prime. Now we trade Arcia before his prime. Cue up Urias.

When was Escobar's "prime"? 6 of his last 7 years he had an OBP under .300.. His career: .258/.293 and .636 OPS....Escobar had two decent years and a bunch of crappy ones. Segura was and continues to be a cancer in the club house. Despite his numbers, he is with his 4th team in 5 years. Teams seem eager to get rid of him once they have him for a season.

I find it weird that some people, after watching the last 3 or so years of work, walk into every move with the mindset of, "let's see...how can I find a way to convince myself this is a really stupid move?"

I think the opposite seems to be true around here.

Everyone seems to say "let's see... how can I find a way to convince myself that this is a really, brilliant move?"

See Anderson, Brett.

Anderson was a 2.7 WAR player last year. They signed him for 5 million dollars. If he's hurt next year or sucks both of which are fairly probable, the team is out $5 million dollars and moves on. If Anderson delivers at even a 2.0 WAR they come out like a bandit. If he pitches well while the rest of the team sucks they can flip him at the deadline for something. It's not Cole or Strasburg but he's a bonafide major league pitcher on a short term contract. Whats not to like.

What’s not to like is that if they are not gonna give Peralta or Burnes innings as a MLB starter in 2020, why not at least sign a slightly younger pitcher that still has some upside like Julio Teheran or Taijuan Walker etc even if it costs slightly more than an Anderson type? Why overpay for García and especially Sogard?

What I don't understand is that you keep saying we "overpaid" or "paid more than the going rate" for Garcia..how do you know what the going rate was? How do you know what his other offers were? Are you basing this off of purely speculation?

I will go on record as saying: No! I would not trade Hiura for Glasnow...

I predict Hiura will be a future NL MVP.

No! for me too, I would not trade Hiura as he's my favorite player in the team, and he's a hitting stud like Yelich that the Brewers will have control for many years.

An awful lot of money. $14.5 million virtually for Sogard and Avi García. It will be interesting as the offseason plays out to see how some of the remaining FAs get paid.

Three Year Stats:

So if you value 1 WAR at $9M, basically you're getting a 2 WAR guy and a 1 WAR guy at half price. They should have a pretty decent chance at outproducing their cost.

I like this signing more than the Healy signing. I think he’ll back up at 2b, 3b, and occasionally at short. He’s a fairly good obp guy and might make a decent pinch hitter. I really hope we stay away from Seager. Don’t like the contract or the production. I don’t think we overpaid on Sogard as I find the whole market is overpaying in general. Another consideration (which I’m not really enamored of) is that Sogard holds down 3rd while Healy gets healthy and tuned up in AAA. That’s why I think that Stearns will be more likely to trade or sign a first baseman. I must admit I’m in the uneasy camp as of now, but I trust DS so much that the dam is holding. On trading Arcia—I’d rather obtain a AAA or AA guy who has a decent shot but is blocked at the big league level by some older established guy who’s on the downside.

No way I’m trading Huira.

Don't like the price tag but the signing makes some sense. I really hope he doesn't turn back into a pumpkin or Stearns will really look bad on this one.

Your're coming around with Sogard... good to see.

Next step is a tough one, though: Sogard> Villar

Nice to see DS seeing it my way. This GM has potential!

Go Brew!

This team needs a Villar. Hopefully Urias will be that.
