"Introducing your 2018 Seattle Mariners...I mean 2020 Milwaukee Brewers!"

Acquiring Mariners is the new market inefficiency!

I'd be surprised if Healy is on the roster come opening day. I think he'll be down in AAA. He can't play third even though it's on his baseball card and he's sort of meh offensively.

My optimism for next year is slowly fading.

This guy's not starting at third. If people weren't on the edge of their seat waiting for a big move nobody would be LOLing this, they just wouldn't care. It's not like they won't be signing guys like this, regardless of what else they do. There are spots you have to fill.

There are certain people here though (not you) that I'm not sure they even like the team anymore. I'm not a big rah rah positive guy but the LOL/Attanasio is cheap/need to win now schtick is really getting old.

Stearns said he'll be given an opportunity to make the team.

Translation: see you in San Antonio.

Low risk signing, has some pop that could translate in Miller Park, my question is can he play CF?

I know we tend to become enamored with our own guys but why not just bring back Travis Shaw? I think its more likely Shaw outperforms Healy in 2020.

Shaw said he wants a change of scenery

He should try batting righty.

Okay, I kind of like this signing.

He still comes with control - earliest FA is 2023.

Also, he is coming from T-Mobile Park (93 hitting/94 pitching multi-year; 95/96 one-year) to Miller Park (101/101). So, I bet he'll see a few more go in the stands rather than end up as outs or doubles.

So, this could work out well, if he keeps healthy. Only has played third and first, though. I suppose in a pinch, they could use him in left...

He had an .800 OPS against RHP last year. Not a bad reserve at all. Honestly any reserve that can fill in and be 100 OPS+ level is fantastic.

To be fair, he only played 47 games last year. I most appreciate his nearly 5:1 career K/BB ratio. He'll fit right in on the Brewers.

PS: What is the difference between an outright and optional assignment? 40 man?

with an optional assignment, the player remains on his club's 40-man roster. with an outright assignment, he is removed from the 40-man roster.

That makes sense then. There are 2 spots on the 40 and another 4-5 that could easily open if Healy replaces Freitas and/or Rodriguez.
