Brewers sign Jace Peterson to Minor league deal

Is there any doubt that this guy is going to tear the cover off the ball in San Antonio, and force his way up to Milwaukee, where he's going to get entirely too many ABs?

If he can outproduce Freitas' 2019 with the big league club (i.e., 2+ hits), it's still an improvement!

No chance. Somehow that's become the narrative around here. CC likes to play a scrappy AAAA a lot. Not sure where that came from, but there's no evidence of this.

2019 - Spangenberg

2018 - Saladino, Sogard, Brad Miller

2017 - Sogard (who was absolutely terrible after his first week or so), Nick Franklin

2016 - Nieuwenhuis

2015 - Elian Herrera

Of course, there's his general love affair with Hernan Perez.

Do other teams not play players of similar quality?

Most of the guys on your list had more PAs with other teams the year before or after their year with the Brewers with the exceptions being Nieuwenhuis and Herrera but the 2015/2016 teams weren’t exactly loaded with quality players. I think that contradicts the narrative the Counsell likes to play the scrappy AAAA player a lot when he’s playing them less than other teams.

Also, one minor quibble (and this comes from somebody who wasn’t a fan of him as a player) Sogard wasn’t terrible outside of his first few weeks. Yes he came out scorching hot but he put up an OPS of .824 in June and .773 in August (yes in a limited sample). Not saying he wasn’t terrible the other months (wasn’t he hurt as well?). I was also surprised to see he put up an .810 OPS last year in over 440 PAs.
