1b in the last decade

MVP2110

I was recently looking over some previous lineups. I hadn't realized until this morning that in the last 9 seasons we've used 9 different opening day 1b

19- Aguilar

18- Braun

17- Thames

16- Carter

15- Lind

14- Overbay

13- Gonzalez

12- Gamel

11- Fielder

And a decent chance we add to that list this year depending on who we sign

I would be curious to see how our 1B numbers ranked in the league over that time period. Some years we have gotten decent production from 1B while others years have been a disaster.

Brewers 1B Melvin Years (2011-15)

104 wRC+ (20th)

2.6 WAR (25th)

Brewers 1B Stearns Years (2016-19)

119 wRC+ (8th)

9.1 WAR (10th)

Outside of a few teams that have an elite player, 1B is kind of becoming a second-thought, revolving door, rest day position around the league. This isn't really just a Brewer thing.

It is the RB of MLB.

Yes for aging power hitters who are mediocre defensively it sees like the standard progression is: original position -> 1B -> DH.

And the final stage usually means they get sent to the AL.
