Price tag doesn’t shock me at all. I will hold judgement till they find a lefty first baseman and whatever they decide for third. There are many more moving pieces to this deal. Braun/Thames at first could be real nice (a few other attractive LHB platoon partners) and if they get something for 3B (not Urias) then I like the offense they constructed...not a bad move at all.

Hopefully he hits at Miller Park and has an OPS over .800.

I hope this deal is backloaded a bit. 8/12 or 7/13. Defer some of that to 2021 when Braun's salary is off the books, and allow us a bit more to spend toward contending this year.

What exactly you think they are spending money on? Rotation appears pretty darn set, not like we are going to spend big on the bullpen, bench is pretty full, and the offense will be full outside of 3B. How much will we spend on a 1B that will platoon with Braun and a 3B?

I don't see a big FA move at this point...I'll agree, but a trade with us taking on salary is certainly possible...both now and at the deadline.

Jon Heyman

@JonHeyman

Avisail Garcia turned down 3 year deals with Brewers and elsewhere due to the expiring basic agreement in 2 years and the chance to raise the AAV afterward. Betting on himself #brewers

I hope he plays himself into a JD Martinez type contract after these 2 years...

I'm surprised at the price.

MLB trade rumors projected 2 year, 12 million

McDaniel at Fangraphs projected 1 year, 10 million

Crowdsource at Fangraphs projected 2 years, 13 million

Bowden projected 2 years, 17 million

Average comes out to 1 year, 8 million or 2 years, 14 million.

Seems like a pretty high price considering the number of games he's missed over the past few seasons.

Over the last four years he's had a seasonal average of 1.9 bWAR and 1.6 fWAR. Steamer is projecting him at 1.2 WAR for 2020. Small market team shelling out 10 million per season for what could be a <1.5 WAR player seems excessive. The bat is probably OK, but time missed and rate of defensive decline could be the two factors that will either make Garcia worth it or not worth it.

Little pricier than I was anticipating, but still a good sign! Beginning to think Braun will be utilized like the Dodgers did David Freese the past couple of years, an occasional start and the first to pinch hit.

Assuming the AAV is a bit higher because it's only two years. Dont hate the deal, don't love it, but trust Stearns knows best.

Pretty much my thoughts.

First move of the offseason I'm not staunchly in favor of. I also know that Stearns has earned my trust, so giddy-up.

How is Bowden consistently the closest on almost everyone this offseason? I thought this guy was a complete clown, is this a blind squirrel finds 100 nuts situation?

Narvarez and Garcia are younger and will make about 20 million less per year that Moose and Grandal...yet their OPS+ is about the same. Also, they aren't locked into the big money deals for long term. You wanted to replace the void by Moose and Grandal? There are 2 moves that get as close as can be.

Welcome to the team!

Also, I'd like to wager most people are wrong about most deals, this one just being another
