Didi Gregorius

I haven’t seen a thread for Didi unless I missed it, but I figured since the Brewers seem interested in his services, it would be good to have a thread to discuss him.

If Didi is seriously considering a one year deal to build back his value, what could he expect on a one year deal?

Also of note, Didi has not been offered a qualifying offer yet in his career. The Brewers would be able to offer Didi the qualifying offer after 2020 and receive an extra draft pick within the first couple rounds if he has a productive season.

If we got Didi at 3/$42M, like MLBTR guessed, I’d be happy. Id still be plenty happy if we got him and he was our big FA acquisition. I think DS can be creative with smaller FA signings and trades to stay competitive with the top of the NL Central. That’s a price and length we can handle.

The Milwaukee Brewers are the place to go to build back your value on a one year deal. The word on the street is

These guys who are free agents coming off a down year or are facing a tepid market aren't stupid. They saw what Moose and Grandal were able to sign for. They know if they choose the Brewers, they are choosing a smart team who is typically going to put them in the best position to get the most out of their talents.

Word is he wants a one year deal, so I doubt we nab him for 3 years.

If that is true about the QO I could see the Brewers or Reds signing a one year deal with the agreement that they wont offer the QO.

This is interesting, but I'm not sure if it's legel (allowed) to have a written agreement stating that a QO won't be offered. And I'd be damned if a player is accepting a word of mouth agreement.

It is legal as Thames had in his contract the Brewers would not be able to offer him arbitration even though he would qualify for it. The same can be done with the QO.

Even if it wasn't legal I doubt a team is going to go back on their word and look stupid doing so. If the team did this it would make it extremely difficult for them to acquire and keep players especially free agents.

I think it was Rosenthal on MLB Network that was saying Didi would see the QO as a benefit, because a one-year deal plus the QO would probably pay him as much in two years as he's likely to get in a three-year deal right now.
