2019 Winter Meetings Rumors

I think it's much more likely that they are planning to move Hiura off 2B than they are going to trade him. (I didn't think his defense there looked as bad as some did.) I know his arm isn't his strongest attribute but I don't see why he couldn't move to 3B full time.

Wait, Hiura at 3B. Pretty sure he would have a shot at worst defender in MLB history. He can’t play 2B and struggles making throws to 1B. Across the diamond? Oh my.

They would trade him to the Cubs for nothing before he moves to 3B.

From Adam McCalvy...

While Brewers fans fret, David Stearns said he feels great about the options available to fill the team's holes at first- and third base. The list of possibilities has grown, not narrowed, at these Meetings, based on talks with other teams.

Obviously. No reason for them to ever move him to an easier defensive position. We've already established that he, a major league 2B, has no throwing arm.

Should the Mets end up with Marte, it would add to an already crowded group of outfield-capable players for the team. Marisnick, Brandon Nimmo, Michael Conforto, Jeff McNeil, Dominic Smith, J.D. Davis and Yoenis Cespedes (if he returns from injury) are on hand as prominent players who have lined up in the grass. However, the Mets are “open” to parting with Nimmo to somewhat alleviate the logjam, per Martino. They shouldn’t have a tough time finding a taker for the 26-year-old, as he’s a quality major league hitter with three seasons of control remaining and is only projected to earn $1.7MM in 2020.

Nimmo would become one of my top targets if he's actually available, and if Braun can play 1B.

I wouldn't be surprised if Stearns is targeting OF given that we will have a massive hole there after 2020 after trading Grisham, and Stearns is a long-term thinker.

Take this with a huge grain of salt (and a healthy dose of skepticism), but this writer for Prospects Live, Alex Jensen, claims to have a trade scoop...

Hearing that Luis Castillo is likely to be headed to Houston in return for a package of Correa and Reddick. Still some time for physicals or legal issues to make things fall through. Reds could be getting their cornerstone SS to build around. Houston replacing Cole and cutting $

As a Brewers fan I would love for the Reds to make that trade. Suddenly that pitching staff is not so intimidating when headed by the wildly inconsistent and unreliable Sonny Gray and Trevor Bauer.

I like Nimmo a lot. He’s battled some injuries, but gets on base a ton. Nimmo has a .391 OBP over his last three seasons.

The Mets seem like a good trade partner on a lot of levels this offseason.

Of course he’s going to say that ........not going to tell the press i F it all up. No GM tells the truth at the winter meetings.

It seems like the Astros would have to give up more to get Castillo. Maybe Forrest Whitley or Kyle Tucker along with some cash to pay towards Reddick’s salary?

Again, seems far fetched but either the guy is trying to make a name for himself or he actually trusts/believes his alleged source.

It would be sort of ironic if the Astros plucked another Ace out of the NL Central after getting Cole a couple of years ago.

Sadly it seems fake because the same proposal was tweeted out earlier by what I think (?) is a parody account that pretends to be run by a dog, though this other guy denies that that is his source. But what are the odds?

Yeah, I just saw that account as well, which appears to have gotten some things in the past actually correct, and others incorrect. It seems bizarre all around, but I sure do love hot stove season. :laughing

One part of the quote is very interesting. “Based on talks with other teams”. Sounds like he’s definitely looking at making a trade to fill the holes at first or third or possibly both.

Which is better than the current state of our pitching staff. lol

I get the feeling that our 2020 3B will be someone out of the blue and underwhelming, who's not even a Free Agent.

Like Chad Pinder.

Lol. Like Narvaez, Pinder will be going into magical prime season at 27 years of age. Also 3 years of arb left. He's also a swiss army knife that can play 2B,SS,3B, and OF.

Saw the reports that he’s getting attention as a “hot” commodity on trade market.

David Fletcher is another guy who has played primarily 3B, but can play all over the diamond as well. If the Angels make move for Rendon or Donaldson, maybe there is an outside chance they’d be open to moving Fletcher.

Lastly, with the Royals deep in a rebuild maybe the Brewers could pry away Hunter Dozier who could play at both corner IF spots, albeit with somewhat spotty defense.

It’s telling that Stearns specifically mentioned having lots of options on the trade market for 1B/3B.

I don't see the Brewers going with a relative full-time job to a guy like Chad Pinder. Having a .700 OPS against RHP basically precludes him from a full-time role. And they generally shielded Pinder from righties so that number/production could be at a much worse/higher volume if they didn't.

I'd rather just pick up Maikel Franco. He's what Chad Pinder would be if he was forced to face 70% righties and it won't cost an asset to pick him up.

It's depressing to see some of the names that people are willing to accept on this roster for 2020.

So we get to pick through the scraps just hoping and praying one of them has a serviceable season.

It's actually mood altering depressing...
