I would have liked to see him in a Brewers uniform, but it's clear that the Phillies are in a win now mode and aren't as concerned about salary. Hope that the Brewers will find quality pitching that fits within their budget.

I like this MLB offseason substantially better than last year's offseason. Starting to move at a pretty good pace, and we're only in early December!

Hard to imagine anyone disagreeing with this. I like it as well. I feel like we've had more action to this point this year than we had either of the last 2 years by December 31st.

IF we are competitive next year, Stearns will have really earned his money. Just don't see any likelihoods ANYWHERE. Rendon isn't signing here, no TOR SP is signing here. There are no sure thing 1B or 3B. Yeeesh. We'll see.

Okay, is it time to call Garza yet?

His ties to the east coast probably would have meant us giving notably more than this. I think Wheeler would have been a decent risk for the Brewers at the 5/$100mil area, but this is getting a tad steep.

Being a cheese state I feel like we could have beat an offer of $120 worth of mish though.

I'm not addressing this to anyone specifically in this thread, but I just find it remarkable that a GM who has brought winning baseball back to Milwaukee, made the playoffs in consecutive seasons and has averaged, yes averaged over 90 wins per season the last 3 years has not earned even a little bit of the benefit of the doubt from some. Moose and Grandal go off the board and some other FAs outgain their projections in free agency and it's just mass panic from some.

It's early December. There are so many free agents without a home especially after the arbitration deadline. I love the trade we made with the Padres. The winter meetings are coming. There will probably be more trades to be made. It's a fun time of year and I can't wait to see what DS has in store for the 2020 team.

Nightengale reported that the White Sox had a slightly higher bid than the Phillies.

$120 million. They are going to sign a front line starter this offseason with that kind of coin.

Interesting that a guy like Wheeler pitchers to basically 4era and 1.26 whip guy last year. And gets nearly $24 mil a year.

Jordan Lyles was a 4.15 era (2.45 with Crew), 1.3 whip (1.1 with Crew) and he’s estimated to get between $5-8 mil.

Not saying Lyles is better at all. Just found it interesting that they weren’t that different in these two categories.

Lyles is actually a few years younger too.

Well, they already threw a lot of $$$ at Grandal. Kinda making up for being shut out of the market last year it appears.

When you lose 1/3 of the starters on your team there is going to be doubt as to the credibility and competitiveness of the future of your beloved team. I get it we are a small market team but the fans have supported this team through attendance and apparel etc as if it was one of the Largest markets in baseball.

I think it should be noted, yet again, that it is still extremely early in the offseason. I think a little patience is certainly in order.

This is actually the kind of contract I expected the Brewers to shoot for. Maybe a tad high, but not by much. My guess was just that they'd sign a good SP who's in the tier below what the cream of the crop is getting. I have no idea what I'm talking about though, just a suspicion they are going to sign a legit SP this offseason based on clearing money from position players.

Same exact post, two different threads within an hour, both relevant and accurate....

Not sure if I should feel good about the active FA market early in the off season, or start to feel the doom and gloom of being a small market team....
