Game 12: Packers at Giants - Sunday Dec 1, Noon

There's no reason Rodgers would be as good as he was 8 years ago but to ignore the subpar talent on the offense and just say he's not elite is pretty lazy. Get actual NFL receivers and a tight end as good as Jared Cook and then I'll evaluate where Rodgers is.

Take him off this team and I think they are 2-10.

We could say this every year since 2012.

Huh? He won an MVP in 2014. He carried the team, literally, to an NFCCG in 2016. What?

I'm talking about them being 2-10. His work in 14 and 16 further proves my point.

Don’t tell Bob McGinn that....

I still remember that terrible column he wrote saying the team could win without him. A couple weeks later he got his shoulder separated against the Bears and the team proceeded to go into the tank. They were lucky the division was so bad that year that they ended up still winning it.

I actually think it was that week and he specifically called them an 11-5 team. Of course it was contingent on Seneca Wallace being the starter...

You can get away with choking away a 1st and goal from the 1 and pulling a rabbit out of your hat on 3rd and 17 against a garbage team like the Giants. Won't get that play against the 49ers or Saints.

Yah, I think we know that. We saw that last week.

Exactly. A wild card win is the ceiling for this team.

There is no way to definitively say that at this point in the season.

Why? What have you seen in 12 games that makes you think they can even compete with SF or NO in the divisional round? A wild card win against Seattle or Minnesota isn't even a gimme.

Why are you assuming the Packers can’t win the second bye? San Francisco’s schedule is brutal the rest of the way, and SF and NO still play each other.

1. The fact that you’ve already penciled in SF and NO as the top two seeds.

2. It isn’t always about what the Packers have done as the other team can struggle too. NO got trucked at home and had to hold on to beat 3-9 Atlanta.

3. The Packers have shown the ability to create turnovers and get some pressure on the QB. They haven’t been consistent with it, but if they can get that going with Rodgers at QB they can beat anybody.

4. Aaron Rodgers.

There is still a lot of the season left and the playoffs aren’t set. The Packers could get hot or there could be a significant injury to another team or they slump down the stretch.

It is too early to definitively call their playoff ceiling.

I agree that is very likely their ceiling. Which is a meteoric rise from two sub .500 seasons and one I'm totally satisfied with.

To be fair I think they were better than a 6-7 win team the last two years too.

Maybe the first year because he got hurt. Last year they sucked. They were exactly where they finished. More to the point though, their decline was pretty obvious as a team starting in 2015. Rodgers pulled off some legend stuff in 2016 but it was clearly a different level of talent the past several seasons after the debacle in Seattle. That game IMO was a pretty relevant moment for the team that trickled down for years.

I keep saying this. It's completely possible the Packers are 13-3 which is almost a lock for at least a bye. It's not the most likely outcome but I don't think it's remotely out of reasonably cheering for yet.

It's not going to matter where they play.

Now you are just getting silly. Why even watch if you’ve already determined they can’t beat teams in the playoffs even at home?

Because I'm a Packers fan.

So, you are watching because you think they can do something? Otherwise, what is the point even if you are a Packers fan since you already know the outcome.
