The Eddie Lacy look alike is simply terrible at returning kicks too.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I'm coming around to the idea that the Packers just can't blow anyone out. They're simply not explosive enough.

You mean the defense? Otherwise weird game to post this

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Take your pick I guess. If Rodgers is the QB and you are 17th in YPP safe to say the offense has some problems. They just aren't particularly good at anything. What is a true strength of the Packers? I guess they are decently balanced and not awful at anything besides special teams yards. Even some of the perceived strengths are odd. The Smith's are great but the defense is still on the low end of pressures, and they can run, but sometimes get totally shut down there too.

It's a true feat of coaching or game management or something I can't figure out that they are knocking on 9-3's door. I guess they rarely cough up the ball, that's something significant.

Boy has Rodgers missed a lot of people open this year. It’s becoming a problem for this offense.

He's not elite anymore. Hasn't been the same since Barr separated his shoulder. Brady is no longer elite either. No shame in being just second tier.

I would understand if it was merely an issue of physical limitations. I expect him to be a step slower, have a bit less zip on the throws, miss his mark by a football width every once in a while—that stuff is natural. But I’m worried about what’s happening between his ears. He’s frequently failing to find the open receiver. His decision making is really starting to disturb me. He still doesn’t throw picks, so he’s not exactly forcing it, but he isn’t finding the open receiver in his progressions, even when he has all the time in the world. These things bother me way more than anything else going on with the offense.

This is correct. I didn't mean to make it seem like injuries are the reason for his downward trajectory in production. Just saying the Barr play is when it started. You could see he was at the end of his prime last year.

There's no reason Rodgers would be as good as he was 8 years ago but to ignore the subpar talent on the offense and just say he's not elite is pretty lazy. Get actual NFL receivers and a tight end as good as Jared Cook and then I'll evaluate where Rodgers is.

Take him off this team and I think they are 2-10.

Oh I think there is plenty of blame to go around. Much has been made of the pass catchers’ inability to gain any separation consistently, and that has happened, but not as often as some like to think. Scheme can be blamed for this too, but 12 is missing a lot of easy yards in the passing game. I can only speculate as to the reason, which isn’t really useful, but watching replays reveals a lot of open underneath and crossing routes. Too many to simply excuse.

We could say this every year since 2012.

Don’t tell Bob McGinn that....

Huh? He won an MVP in 2014. He carried the team, literally, to an NFCCG in 2016. What?

I still remember that terrible column he wrote saying the team could win without him. A couple weeks later he got his shoulder separated against the Bears and the team proceeded to go into the tank. They were lucky the division was so bad that year that they ended up still winning it.
