Francisco Lindor

With all the rumblings about Lindor being traded (which I still don't think will happen) what if they use the new acquisition of Urias to build a package for Lindor? Cleveland would want a young, highly touted prospect to potentially replace Lindor.

MKE gets Francisco Lindor

CLE gets Luis Urias, Brice Turang, Aaron Ashby, and Corbin Burnes.

It's a good thought! But If a team like the dodgers or somebody wants him, they'll out bid us. Plus Lindor will be gone in 2 years anways so it's a big risk. Hopfully, we have a ss of the future now, and we can use turang and other prospects to go out and trade for a pitcher. Maybe Robbie Ray?

No way in the world Strearns would even think of the deal. Lindor is estimated to get around $17M this year and lots more in 2021 and he is gone in only two years. He's way to expensive for the Crew plus giving up young controlable talent.

Well, if you are not going to pay Yelich (a maybe), then these next two or three years will be prime years to do this. Get the best player at the second poorer hitting position. Get the best top of the lineup in the league...

Lindor

Hiura

Yelich

Stearns would do this deal in a heartbeat, BTW.

Not one of the 4 players being offered is proven at the major league level.

Cleveland would be looking for a better headliner than Urias for certain.

I do agree that it's not in the Brewers small market MO to pull off a trade for an expensive superstar like this though.

The best way for a team like the Brewers to trade for a player of Lindor's calibur however is at the Trade Deadline in the player's last year under contract, and only if the Brewers are truly positioned to "go for it all" at the time. They would probably need to give up less, in this instance as well.

It’s hard to imagine Stearns does that deal unless Mark A volunteers to significantly increase payroll in order to sign a lot of pitching. You’d only have Lindor for a 2 year window, and while a foundation of Lindor/Yelich/Hiura could indeed be a World Series caliber offense, the Brewers do not have World Series caliber pitching...

A move like that for a short term window has not been in the Brewers M.O., and it would need to be (in my opinion) followed up on by signing Cole or Strasburg plus another starting pitcher plus Chapman & Harris etc... I just don’t see that happening. ...otherwise you are just mortgaging the future for a 2 year window hoping that Woodruff & Hauser turn into Cole & Strasburg and hoping Knebel comes back 100% and Peralta turns into Verlander etc etc

I'd rather use the same resources to trade for a pitcher. We already have an upside player at SS now in Urias. The gap between our rotation and a Lindor equivalent SP is drastically bigger.

Plus, Lindor is great but a lot his value comes from his defense. It's not like we'd be trading for a .400 wOBA middle-of-the-order beast.

I think they could, but I hope they don’t. I really hope they don’t go all in on a 2 year run and that’s it. I don’t think Stearns would be that short sighted by mortgaging the future to go all in for two years. If Hader is moved, I hope it’s for multiple guys with 4+ years of control at the least.

Hader for Lindor straight up....4 seasons for 2.

Don't think Tribe would do it. Hader cost also going up and its not like bullpen is a huge need for Cleveland.

Keep the name James Karinchak (especially with his 2019 minor league stats https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/k/karinja01.shtml) in mind with the Tribe bullpen in 2020. Absent him (& Brad Hand) I think the Tribe would consider the trade more...

So if they get Lindor in the above trade it would add about $11 million to the payroll bringing it to $86 ish. Room for a Donaldson signing I would speculate. Now that would be a killer lineup. No matter who plays 1B.

Technically you’re not wrong. But now you still have what, 7 roster spots to fill and $110 million on your payroll already with a rotation of Woodruff, Hauser, and Lauer and that’s it... You would be looking at a bottom third pitching staff overall with your below average bullpen as well.

Trade our best pitcher and more for Lindor.. than we have no pitching. What’s the point?

My gut feeling is that Hader's best years are behind him. It's going to be difficult to put up better years than the last two. It would be selling high to have an unbelievable top of order.... Lindor, Yelich, Hiura.

Ok, so in that scenario, Lindor plays SS, where does Urias play? 3B?

I don't think he will put up the kind of offensive numbers we need out of our 3B spot.

I also don't think Urias was acquired to play 3B.

Adding Turang to this deal makes it a BIG no for me.

If trading Hader, we don't need to add anyone to the deal, especially when the player we get back will only be here 2 seasons.

1B ?

2B Hiura

SS Lindor

3B Urias

  • 2 weeks later...

Reports (per Rosenthal, MLB Network) are that the Indians are telling teams to get their final offers in on Lindor.

I could see the Brewers trying to get in on Lindor. Hader plus Arcia & Ray, that kind of thing, but being outbid.

The other side of that is that depending on who Lindor gets traded to (the Dodgers especially), it could really open up a trade avenue for the Brewers to trade for an infielder who gets blocked by Lindor...

Stay tuned, could be an interesting couple of weeks...
