Davies and Grisham to San Diego, Urias and Lauer to the Brewers

Did...people really think non-jokingly that a player modeling uniforms would make one more or less likely to be traded? No offense to anyone who did...but players have been traded before right before their own bobblehead days. Stuff happens and plans are always fluid.

I personally didn't, but I don't blame people for it. Marketing staffs often communicate with the front office to avoid such situations...though for pictures? Yah, I doubt it. More so for promotions as a promotion after a player leaves is real cringy.

I am sort of bummed they traded Davies but seems like they got value for him and this was probably a good offseason to move him. I am not still mad about the Grisham error, heck I forgot about it but clearly remember Hader blowing the game, but I think he was overhyped a bit as a prospect last season so might be a sell high move as well.

At any rate nice to see the offseason get rolling, should be an interesting couple of months.

I feel kind of bad that Grisham's final moment as a Brewer was what happened at the end of the playoff game. Hopefully he's feeling better about everything and sees this as a clean slate.

The guy made an error. He didn't kill a guy. Clean slate analogies are harsh for a guy who had a fabulous 2019.

Personally, I think the walk Grisham drew to open the Wild Card game against Scherzer was more impressive than his late inning defensive gaff was embarrassing.

With that said, I think it was very wise of the Brewers to sell high on Grisham after his breakout 2019 season.

Entering 2019, MLB.com Prospect Pipeline had Luis Urias was ranked as a Top 30 prospect in all of baseball. Trent Grisham was barely rated amoung the 30 best prospects IN THE BREWERS SYSTEM.

Making it even better, Streans traded from a position of depth to a position of need. Awesome.

Good luck to Trent as a Padre.

A year ago at this time Davies had absolutely no value. Glad we got something for him

Can they get anything for Arcia from anyone? Even a flyer prospect?

In all honesty he wouldn't be the worst option as their utility IF/late inning defensive replacement for Hiura in the world, either. Because of that I doubt they'd just non-tender him and let Arcia go for nothing. That's also why I doubt they just trade him for peanuts.

That's a false narrative I see all the time. Brewers success late in the season had very little to do with expanded rosters. They rarely used any of the call-ups.

They did use the bullpen often, however. A deeper bullpen gave CC a whole lot of flexibility in managing a game in Sept., especially with pulling the SP earlier in games

Wasn't any deeper than using the options game all season. Pomeranz was the difference in the bullpen down the stretch, not expanded roster.

I really don't expect Arcia to be back. Stearns has basically thrown Arcia under the bus, backed up, and ran him over continuously for a solid year. When you publicly call one of your own players terrible over and over I think they are probably good as gone.

Regardless I think there is little to no chance Arcia gets the starting gig if he somehow stays.

I'm not saying it has anything to do with how I feel about him. I don't get down on guys for making errors. It happens. It has to do with how I think he feels about that last game. He was crushed. I hope he's gotten over it and if he hasn't maybe going to another team will help.

The more I read on Urias, the more I LOVE this deal. Seems like a try-hard type guy who is great in the clubhouse. His teammates in SD adored him. Fun personality. He should be a great fit with the Brewers.

Same things can be said about Arcia. Rather have someone who's no fun in the clubhouse who can rake.

Brewers got the guy with the highest upside, so that's a big deal. We need players that can potentially be something more than 'okay' or 'decent'. And he fills a need - which is huge. Sure there's risk, but teams like Milwaukee have to take some chances.

Lauer is okay - a lefty, but with reverse splits so far. And his home/away numbers aren't encouraging (3.46 in SD, and 5.44 on the road). Right now, at best, nothing more than a back of the rotation type. But guys like this can certainly get better.

Saves some money. Now around $50M+ available for spending. Should be interesting.

On Lauer’s road splits: in Colorado he pitched to a 19+ERA. Remove those 8 innings, and his road ERA was 4.30 with an xFIP of 4.14 in the other 62 innings. That plays.

Don't discount the importance of having a good clubhouse atmosphere. Last year's Mets and Phillies teams are prime examples of teams that apparently had a lot of drama.

I agree, though, in hoping he can rake.

Keep trading with the Padres! Pretty amazing get. I thought Trent would be our LF after Braun is gone next year (and sits often this year), but LFers are much easier to get than SSs.

I wonder if Lauer might be a Pomeranz replacement in the pen (as well as a backup starter).
